Why isn't this like a huge story? Obviously the guy had a wager on the game.

  • his ref career sounds like shattering glass...
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

As a Carolina fan i was watching the game. We lost but this play did not determine that loss. The LSU defender was going to tackle Garcia anyway.

It isa very odd video though.

I was just reading that they aren't going to penalize him or anything. I think they should though, considering the way he dropped his shoulder and lunged at the guy.
Whoa, chill bro... you know you can't raise your voice like that when the lion's here.

Yeah I was there. Everybody around me was just stunned. They showed it again on the big screen and it confirmed what we all thought we saw. Refs get in the ways of plays all the time, but this dude blatantly threw his shoulder into Garcia.

I'm surprised Spurrier hasn't addressed it. Like someone said it wasn't really crucial to the outcome of the game, but I think a big deal definitely needs to be made about it.

Edit: Just found an article about it. Spurrier actually said he thought the official was trying to get out of the way, and the SEC apparently agrees. No action will be taken. It sure as hell doesn't look to me like he was just trying to move or protect himself
I am lost, I'm no guide. But I'm by your side...

Ha. A similar thing happened in an Australian Football game a few years back.

That play happened right in front of my seats. We're about 12 rows back in Section 1, right in line with the goal line on the USC side. From our view, it was obvious the ref wasn't trying to get out of the way. After watching the replays, it looks like the ref squares up like a linebacker and gives him the forearm shiver. Luckily we scored a td on that posession so it didn't matter.

Spurrier really can't say much about it even if he thought it was blatant (he is on record as saying it wasn't the refs fault though). If he was angry about it, the only thing he could say is that he felt the ref didn't make the best judgement on the play, but anything more and he'd likely have to pay the fine for criticizing officials.

Turns out the ref is a former football player.
