  • What questions do you have about SUNY Albany? I am an alum and have worked at the University. Fire away and I will do the best I can to answer the questions. Here is some basic information.

    Almost 13,000 undergraduate students
    About 5,000 graduate students
Campus is technically in Albany but it is in the outskirts.
    50+majors 60+minors
Mostly a residential school. Numbers are a little off because sophomores, juniors and seniors who move off campus are technically commuters. I would guess 80-85% of the people are not from the Albany area.
A lot of students from downstate (New York City, Long Island, and Westchester)
In my opinion there is a ton of opportunity at the University. Like most schools it is what you make of it. Tons of research opportunities as well as many internships. I interned at the Baseball Hall of Fame as a History undergrad.
Class size varies - largest lecture hall is 500. What you major in, will determine the size of your classes. Usually students will have a mix of lecture centers and classrooms.
Greek life is at Albany, but it is relatively small. I would guess 10% greek and that might be high.
Used to have a lot of bars that underage students could get into. Dont know if it still like that.
Division 1 sports. Basketball team made march madness 2 out of the 3 past years.
Albany is a small city, but there is a good amount to do. Many concerts pass through here. Seeing Ryan Adams and the Cardinals on Wednesday, a funk band from New Orleans on Thursday for example.

Any other questions, please let me know. Hope this was helpful.
