    Noone is actually two words.
Despite that, I think you're quickly approaching Dunk in your eleven posts for my favorite board member.

    I don't care for soccer.

Yes,for the amount of pro teams in the state(at any sport),there never seems to be big crowds at anything.

Ahh yes Football, that game that is played 95% of the time with the ball in players hands.;)
Soccer is called Football in Europe and the majority of the world because it is played primarily with the ball at the foot hence foot-ball.:)
And dont worry I'm a big fan of both sports the Packers are my team and have been since I was 9 or so and Brett Farve is a hero of mine, I just find it odd that you call it Football.:)

When you look at it though, Ice Hockey has a largely diminishing interest in the states as well these days, another sport I love, yet obesity is becoming for lack of better wording a bigger problem, do you think there is any correlation in this?

speaking of which, i'd much rather watch curling on tv than soccer, why can't they show more curling on tv?

No no, that is a misconception.
Most of us don't really like curling, but it is one of 2 or 3 sports in which we have some successful participants so some of us (them) pretend to like it.

I love soccer, but it is one of those things where if someone doesn't get it I won't bother explaining it because they'll never get it.

How can someone 'never get it'? They'll never get it only if they never want to, in which case they didn't want you to waste their time trying to get them to get it in the first place, and are probably wishing you'd change the channel.

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

The MLS is easier to watch this year. It looks a little less like the kick and run soccer that 3rd graders often participate in. :)

i don't want to insult people here but i find that americans don't really like a sport that they are not good at and don't have alot of players who play at a high level.

just liek in canada, we don't really watch baseball as we are not that good at it and there is not alot of canadians who play in the MLB.

for me, i LOVE FOOTBALL! PORTUGAL VS GERMANY TODAY!

Actually that's why Americans don't play Hockey. ;) You just can't go out and ice skate anywhere :)

I think the real problem is money. 9 out of 10 kids want to be pro athletes. They see baseball, basketball, football, gold, skateboarding/snowboarding/motocross as the sports they can make money in. So after grade school (where everyone plays soccer) they move to the other more "american media" friendly sports.

False! We have our own football here... I believe the aussies have their own also. We call association football 'soccer' because football is gaelic football :p

I don't know either... I mean it's not the same as 'understanding' it... cos the reason it's one of the most popular sports in the world is cos there's nothing to it.... try to get the ball (without using your hands) down to the other end of the field and into the net... SURELY even an American could understand that?

I dont think its because we arent good at it here in the states, its just that we werent raised on it.

Kids in our high schools would much rather play football (our football), baseball, basketball, hockey, track, basket weaving, detention, and after hour studies than play soccer.

That said and all kidding aside, it is definately gaining in popularity. There are more and more soccer fields being put up, more attention is given to soccer on our sports channels (ESPN, FOX has their own soccer channel, etc), more kids are playing at earlier ages, etc. We are simply playing catch up with a world that has had hundreds of years as a head start. One day we will dominate that sport as well, so enjoy it while you still have it :) . Currently, all our best athletes play all the other sports. Once they start playing soccer, watch out world.

I agree, but i also dont understand why someone with apparently so little interest in it as this thread starter appears to have would start a thread about it.

I'll never 'get' baseball, or 'get' American 'football', but i dont need anyone to explain it to me so that i do 'get' it, because i dont want to 'get' it, and i dont feel the need to start a thread to question what baseball is all about, or why its so popular, no matter how utterly shite it most certainly is.
People say im paranoid. Well, they dont say it, but i know that's what they are thinking.

I'm sure it's a joke, but if it was so serious I think the point isn't complaining about soccer so much as it is complaining about soccer being on tv all the time...
