I've decided after 17 years of smoking (the last 7 of which I've kept trying to give up) that I've gotta do it now. I don't feel good, clogged up chest, tired from work, I've been ill this winter, etc, etc. I gotta do it some time.

Anyway, my I keep trying but by day 2 I get so fucking horrible and stroppy with my wife and three toddlers that I start again just to stop being an asshole at home. She's gone away for a week with the kids today, so I reckon I've got a 7 day headstart on the not smoking. I can hit walls and be an asshole alone. I've planned it, I've told her I'm going to do it.... But it's 2 hours since I woke up and I'm already feeling really in need of a smoke!

My friend's mom decided to stop smoking in her mid 50s after smoking her whole life, just to be a healthier person..

2 months after she quit, she was diagnosed with cancer. 6 months later she was dead.

She never got to meet her grandchildren..

    It's a stupid, stupid habit.

I know it's not my business, but when I see Ed smoking, I think to myself he should be quitting for his daughters if not himself.

Went in for a complete physical today. have to wait a week for results from blood test/EKG. But I DID get info on quitting. I have the coolest Doctor. Fully supportive of my drink/drug recovery and didnt hassle me about the cigs. Just said when you're ready, she'd help in anyway she can.

Now I just need to decide on HOW I'll go about it, then WHEN. I'm pretty sure by my Bday on the 27th, I'll be on my way.

Has anyone had any success using Zyban or Chantix?
Other options include the patch or Ecigs to wean off the nicotine.
    Or COLDTURKEY!!! :lolno: :lolno:

Results are in!!!! Think about it, 24 yrs of heavy alcoholic drinking , 24 yrs of pot smoking, 10 yrs of crack use, and I'M HEALTHY!!!!!! All blood work came back within normal ranges. EKG did reveal a heart attack sometime in my past. Think I've narrowed down to which night it was. I had no idea. Thought it was just some extremely "good dope" .

Did the intial sleep study for apparent sleep apnea last night , wait for the results of that and probably a second study w/ CPAP machine to see how well that works for me. I have the Chantix script in hand. Just waiting for this sleep study to be done so I can start on that. Smoke free by July 27th plan still in effect!!! I think smoking for 30 yrs is a nice round number to quit at and a hellava Bday present to myself.

not just yet. Will be taking Chantix. Has sleep related side effects. Undergoing a couple sleep studies, didn't want my taking that to skew those results. 5-7 days for the results of the first study I took last night. then another to see if a CPAP machine is workable for me. Personnaly I'd like to have surgery to fix my deviated septum. I dont breath so well through my nose when awake much less asleep. looking at finishing these last 2 cartons of smokes then I'm done. If I still have a pack or three left two weeks from now on the 27th, I'll give them away.

I just quit cigars, It's like 10 cigs at once, I just don't want to do it anymore. I just stopped , today is day 5. My worst trigger is when I drink and last night I drank and was around someone who smokes and boy it was hard, but I really want to quit, and I just clinched my fists, squeezed my fingers, whatever it took , and I didn't smoke!!! I am so happy with myself today. It's not easy at all.... but my determination is very strong! :D

alrighty then. Have 2 left after I smoke this one. Will get to wake up with none on hand. Chantix makes these things taste especially terrible. Looking forward to this.
