Ok here is the deal.

I'm in 10th place out of a 10 person league. My team fucking sucks and I know it. I'm thinking of trade away my number 1 pick, Johan Santana, for a power hitter(also Soriano on the shelf is killing me.)

Today my friend offered me J.D. Drew and John Saunders (Angles Pitcher) for Santana...but I don't know.

I'm thinking of countering that for either JD Drew and Cole Hamels or Jon Lester for Satana and either Jason Bay or Ludwick from my team.

Or I was thinking about someone else Santana for Sizemore, straight up.

Or should I hold on to Santana? Word is he gets hot in the second half.

My problem is power, RBI hitting.

The rest are my pitchers are as follows:

Ted Lilly
AJ Burnett
Andy Pettite
Randy Johnson
Gavin Floyd
Scott Baker (just picked him up)
Jose Valverde
Carlos Marmol
Matt Thorton

And just looking at that, I think I need another pitcher.

Also as I type this, Santana has a 11.25 era through 4 innings striking out 2. GOD!

And I know last place sounds like a lost cause, but the playoffs are still in range because the 6th place team...top 6 go on to the playoffs...is only 14 points ahead of me.

Help me out here guys.

Always take a pitcher over hitting, in most leagues.

It all depends on how you have it set up I guess. You can always find a spot start pitcher, but a consistent hitter is more valuable.
    NERDS!
  • Id take either of those trades. Saunders and Drew or Hamels and Drew for Santana. Youre getting almost equal pitching plus a great hitter. pull the trigger. Obviously you have nothing to lose, but will actually be gaining.

Yeah, but I'd have to up the ante for Hamels and Drew. I'd probably have to offer up Santan + Bay or Ludwick from my team.

He only offered me Saunders and Drew for Santana today.

EDIT: And my league is head to head.

The only deal I'd even consider is Santana for Sizemore. How's your OF? Not even sure I'd do that straight up.

Drew and Saunders are playing over their heads. Definitely trade Ludwick instead of Bay if you can. Hamels is much better than Lester. Drew/Hamels for Santana/Ludwick is almost worth considering, but you'd be getting two big injury risks back.

Honestly, I'd probably only consider dealing Santana for a first round bat.
  • My outfield right now is

    Bay
    Ludwick
    Swisher
and Fukudome in the Utility spot

    and Soriano on the DL

The thing is Santana has been sucking this season, so my time to sell high is gone.

I wouldn't say sucking and you certainly don't want 50 cents on the dollar for that talent. Soriano should be back soon, so hang in there. A slight upgrade at OF is gonna leave your staff real thin.
  • I'd hold onto Johan. He hasn't been great, but if he gets hot he can carry your team into the playoffs and more. Right now you'd be selling johan low and buying Drew high. Wait for Soriano and scour the waiver wire for an OF. Look for Cahse Headley, who also qualifies at 3B. Look for Billy Butler, who only qualifies at DH, or try to trade for Alex Rios, who has been a bust so far. as for pitching, is Liriano available? He should be up any day now. in fact, his agent is asking MLB to look into why he hasn't been called up yet, as he's 8-0 over his last 10 starts. Or pelfrey, who's been red hot.
  • with that pitching staff you have you better hold onto santana. Once soriano comes back trade bay or ludwick or fuky for a pitcher. But seriously, that pitching staff is why your in last. Don't take away your best asset for an injury prone guy when you already have a good of.

In my league santana was just traded for prince fielder and dustin pedroia. So your selling santana pretty low.

i would trade a big bat for starting pitching on most occasions ... someone who plays every day vs. someone who plays every 5 ...

if you can get a stud of a hitter (sizemore is having an ok season at best) - i would pull the trigger ... you can always find SP on the wire unless you are in some NL or AL only keeper league ... just find out who's pitching against the crappy hitting clubs and you should at least get a W out of it ...

I traded Johan in the Off Season (we protect 10 players).

I got Verlander, Lincecum and a 3rd round pick (where I drafted Manny Ramirez).

I think you can get more for Santana than what you are being offered
  • OK GUYS! HELP AGAIN!

My team is still stinking it up. SANTANA CANT GET A FREAKIN WIN!

But today I was offered this trade

    Giambi
    JD Drew
    Ryan Dempster

    for

    Santana

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger...

or just trying to trade Santana for Carlos Lee straight up...

    what do you guys think?

pull the trigger multiple times...make sure that thing fires!!!!!

Santana is having an off year. Dempster is having a pretty good one. the Cubs are on fire. Plus you got 2 good bats coming your way. And what you're doing now obviously isn't working. Whats the worst that happens....you get better?

I would try for the JD Drew / Saunders deal if it is still available. If not the Giambi, Drew, Dempster move is ok.

Santana is actually pitching well the Mets just don't score for him. The Mets O is to streaky to count on as a pitcher.
Hey, you wouldn't hire a clown to fix a leak in the jon so why do you let these hooligans tear down the biz? YEEAAHHH. I don't care if he is Mr. Notorious BIG, can he croon?
  • I say pull the trigger, unless it's a keeper elague
  • No offense, but trading Johan at this point for some bats isn't going to help you all that much. I don't know what your infield looks like but your pitching and OF are weak for a 10 team league. If this is a keeper league I would blow it up and start building for next year. Santana for Sizemore would be a good start. Johan is an elite pitcher and you should be overwhelmed with an offer to trade him. He doesnt have the wins this year, but his peripherals are still great. Wins are just luck. They will come.

What is your format? Roto? H2H?

And whoever said pitchers are more valuable than hitters has no idea what they are talking about. Hitters are decidedly more consistant and valuable that a pitcher and they get hurt much much less.
  • ok, my turn. Not a trade, but a lineup dilemma. i just picked up Carlos Delgado off the waiver wire. Should I start him? To get him in I'd have to sit either
Prince Fielder to get him in at 1B
    or
1 of the following to get him in at DH

Abreu, Holliday, Quentin, Soriano, or Granderson

I want to start him, as he's been one of the hottest hitters in all of baseball, but I don't know who to sit. I already benched Evan Longoria at DH to get soriano back in. Also, every person I have starting plays 7 games next week, while Delgado plays 6

Bench Soriano for a week, then roll with who's hot.

This Guy just proposed a trade to me.

I would get Cory hart and Josh Beckett. For Dempster and Haren. Is that at least fair value?
    BORGATA>VIC
  • depends. Is it a keeper league? Do you need teh OF help? I think haren and Dempster will both put up numbers as good or better than Beckett the rest of the year

I got C. Lee, Ankiel, and C. Jackson who is finally coming around again. Ankiel has been way to inconsisent and who knows when Conor Jackson will revert to his usual self.

I tried to counter For either Holliday or Hamilton but he aint parting with either.
    Not keeper.
    BORGATA>VIC
  • I benched Fielder. Hope I don't regret it

welp, I regret it. I'm an idiot. Delgado has 10 points, Fielder 27. Turns out the right move would have been to ignore Delgado, and leave everyone else in. Every player I considered sitting for Delgado has more than 20 points so far. I'm winning by 60, so it's not a killer, but I'd love to win by 80
  • Not a trade question, but just a general question. Didn't need a new thread for it.

Tonight's Reds/Rockies game, I have Volquez.....1st and 2nd, 1 out. Cook lays down a bunt "to the catcher" who throws the ball away, both runners score. Are those runs earned or unearned? I would say unearned, as they only scored because of the error, even though the bunt was ruled a single. Even if no error is made on the play, the bases are loaded. Noone scores from 2nd on a bunt to the catcher. The runs being earned is costing me 2 points, and I'm trying to chase down 3rd place to win some money. Those 2 points may be the difference

Here's a recap of the play from ESPN

A Cook reached on bunt single to catcher, I Stewart to third, J Baker to third, I Stewart and J Baker scored, A Cook to second on throwing error by catcher P Bako.
