but this will be awesome enjoy
I'm not sure that I like it in a baseball park though... It will just looks strange with the shape of the rink vs the sake of the ballpark.
was like a picture
of a sunny day

Very cool ....having an original six matchup in such a historic stadium!!!
What's not going to be neat to see is the fuckin' RedWings come in and kick the Hawk's ass.
It's bad enough the Hawks get beat inside and in front of well, not that many people anymore...LOL! Why do they want the entire world knowing they suck?
Fuckin Bill Wirtz!
Hey don't be so hard on your team! ....with Wirtz now six feet under the Hawks are having a real remerging as one of the great young teams in the league with the Pens and Caps!
Dude, you even watch any Hawks games last year? This team is going to be a force next season. Already have a solid core of offensive players in Kane(ROY), Toews, Sharp, Havlat and Lang. They addressed the defense by adding Brian Campbell, one of the most sought after free agents, and they just signed Matt Walker to go along with Sopel, Seabrook and Barker. And they added Huet to platoon with Khabi in net. They aren't at the Wings' level yet, but they are making huge strides and will be very competitive. Most games were sold-out by the end of last season and it will be even harder to get tickets this year. Say good-bye to the $8 student tickets in the 300 level. I wish this game was at Soldier Field(more people and more of a cold weather atmosphere), but it will still be badass either way. I'm pumped.
Oh, and Bill Wirtz died a year ago. His son Rocky has taken over and he's the man.
Yeah, they really do have some incredible young talent.
Honestly, I think being a Blackhawks fan has been more frustrating than being a Cubs fan. LOL
Yeah, I know. I'm just bitter! :P
There was some serious energy last year that I haven't seen in a long time!
I went to all the Hawk's games when they were playing the Coyotes this last year and there was even more energy during an away game.
You are right though, they are going to be tough in the next few years.
hey and lets not forget the sweetest uniform in pro sports!

OK phew. As I know you're a big Chicago sports fan, you had me a little nervous there. Hopefully the upcoming years will make up for the last 15 crappy ones.
Right you are. If they could only bring back the old Stadium, then I'd be in heaven.
I remember going to Hawks/Redwings games at The Stadium back when I was a kid. Those games were nuts!
Sooooo loud, and there'd be more fights in the crowd than on the ice! I was 11-12 or so...don't really remember and I remember being covered in beer. LOL
I'd always be behind some jackass in a Wings jersey. He'd start talking shit and the next thing I knew I was covered in beer and popcorn. Hahahahaha!
Ahhhh, those were the days!
Is this Wrigley's third major league sport...baseball, football and hockey?
Yep.
Now if they could get the Bulls to play there they'd have it all covered.
A real dream come true would be to see the Cubs win it all inside of Wrigley... guess that's just me though.
but chicago/detroit at wrigley will be real bad ass. can't wait.

It is good to see the Hawks coming on. I look forward to hating them again -- wait, I take that back, I do hate them, they had their way with the Wings last year.
Cover that 5 hole, however I wish the Bruins could come up with a matchup with let's say the Canadians at FENWAY!
Peace

I agree. I think the baseball stadium setting is not the right type of venue for a hocky game. A football stadium is a much better set up for a hockey game.
8/26/98 - Cleveland
10/7/00 - Detroit
4/25/03 - Cleveland
6/23/06 - Pittsburgh
I agree that it would make more sense to have it at a football stadium...but c'mon!!!! It's Wrigley and I'm assuming your a dirty stinking Sox fan for the comment above . I'm just surprized you didn't suggest having it at Comis...I mean US Cellular field.
Just think if they opened the upper deck for it all the people that would slide, bounce, fall, take others out as they fell to their deaths.
Hahahaha, it's STEEP! Throw in some ice and snow and people would die! LOL
Go hawks! and i agree, best uni in pro sports.
If you buy season tickets, they will give you tickets to the NY game. At least the amount of seats you bought. They might allow you to purchase 1-2 extras as well. The other tickets will be sold via lottery style. Season tickets start at 675 a seat. Which isn't all that bad. Anyone want to split a season with me?
If you could survive the steepness of the old Stadium, you can survive at the Cell.
I just feel bad for the people who are gonna sit like 30 rows up in the lower deck at Wrigley for this game, with the upper deck over you. Won't be able to see shit, just like at a baseball game. And unlike a Cubs game, I think these fans will actually care what is going on... hehe
It should definitely be at Soldiers, but either way, its still badass.
theres nothing better then 2 original 6 teams out there in one of if not the oldest ballpark out there.
rich in history and tradition.
nice get on this new new years day highlight.
us over here in nyc will have to wait until the 2010 season and the New Yankee Stadium .
Hockey At The New Yankee Stadium
Rangers now hoping to play game at new Yankee Stadium

Though playing a game at the House That Ruth Built is fading, the Yankees' new ballpark could be an option for the Rangers.
The Yankees were on board. The city was on board. And the NHL wanted to do it.
But myriad logistical problems made it too costly and too difficult for the NHL to stage the next Winter Classic as the closing act at Yankee Stadium. Still, if the NHL won't be making history by closing the old ballpark, it could well wind up staging the first non-baseball sporting event in the new one.
The Daily News has learned that NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, Yankees COO Lonn Trost and mayor Mike Bloomberg concluded their discussions on the topic recently with each pledging their interest in playing a Winter Classic in the new Yankee Stadium - perhaps on New Year's Day 2010.
Wrigley Field will do the honors six months from now, serving as the site for a game between the Chicago Blackhawks and the defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings on Jan. 1, 2009. An official announcement from the NHL should come a few days before the league releases its entire 2008-09 schedule on Monday.
While it is certain that the Rangers would play in any Yankee Stadium game, choosing their opponent was one of the many thorny issues that complicated matters. The Islanders began investigating the possibility and meeting with Yankees officials a few years ago and understandably wanted to be included. The Devils, who wield considerable power at the Board of Governors level, wanted in as well.
But NBC, which scored big ratings with the 2008 Winter Classic between Buffalo and Pittsburgh at Ralph Wilson Stadium, views a game between two teams in the same metropolitan area as a ratings minimizer. The network wants a Rangers-Boston Bruins matchup that both has the cachet of an Original Six matchup - like Blackhawks-Red Wings - and brings the eyeballs of two major television markets to the sets.
But there were even more significant obstacles that kept the 2009 Winter Classic from closing Yankee Stadium. Delaying demolition of the ballpark for two months would have hiked construction costs on the new Yankee Stadium, as certain areas common to both stadiums need to be transitioned. Also, since the current Stadium hasn't been used for a winter event since the Giants moved out in 1973, winterizing of pipes would have been necessary to guarantee that 60,000 people wouldn't show up to find that none of the bathrooms worked.
And that would have been on top of the already heightened costs of staging a hockey game in the current Stadium, which has no point of entry large enough to accommodate the huge refrigeration trucks necessary to make and maintain the ice surface.
Understandably, neither the city nor the Yankees had any interest in paying for such things. And when the numbers began to add up, the NHL judged them too high even for such a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
That it ain't no sin to be glad you're alive
