Screw the cable tv giant

Since I spend alot of my free time at home on the net, I just called my giant cable tv monster and downgraded my service from Big Value Package to Basic Cable thus cutting my cable/internet monthly bill in half! YAY! $60 a month extra to play with. :D Come Monday, the cable guy will visit, yank the box and remote for only $35. After all, everythings on the net, even many tv episodes that you can watch on your own time. I figured I'd keep Basic for local breaking news and such.:p Every year, prices keep going up and up for the same service and its just getting out of hand.

Has anyone else said "I cant take it anymore" and did the same?

If you spend alot of your time on the net, it would be worth cutting back on the extras on cable, yes?

I'm pretty sure it is. I thought you weren't going to have a choice soon.
These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.

I haven't thought about how I'm gonna switch from analog to HD yet. I might not even watch TV anymore and just use it for DVD's. LOL. :D

Do you mean basic tv as in over the air, going digital? If so, starting early next year no more over the air reception. I have a fairly new cable ready tv so I dont need a box to view the most basic package.

Over the air TV reception is not going away. If you are still using an aerial antenna, you can get a converter: http://www.summitsource.com/philco-tb100hh9-digital-converter-box-receiver-with-rf-passthrough-cecb-digital-to-analog-converter-box-d2a-coupon-eligible-high-definition-to-standard-definition-offair-digital-tv-signal-receiver-part-tb100hh9-p-7037.html

Exactly, and I think you can get $40 vouchers to help cover the cost of the converters. And some newer TVs can convert the digital signals that will come in over the air without an additional converter box. From what I've seen on my mom's TV though, there is no in between when it comes to digital over the air reception. If the signal is too far away you wont get the channel. Unlike regular analog where a weak signal may give you a snowy but watchable picture, with digital you either get it or you don't.

yeah really. i have about 20 channels on regular non-cable access TV and about 10 of the channels are the same, just different affiliates around the region. Seriously, I don't need two CBS's, two NBC's, two PBS's, two Fox's, and two ABC's.

I actually only watch the local morning news, ESPN + NESN(sports), and other sport related events.
