Hey, the wife and I feel like going on a long weekend and since neither of us have ever been to Philly, we figure to give it a shot. We're going to hit up a Phillies game, so I need something to do that she'd enjoy. Also, where's a good place to stay within walking distance of the historical stuff and/or good bars/food? Thanks.

What are her interests? There's a bunch of antique shops along pine street...and clothing shops along Walnut Street...tons of art galleries in olde city (very close to the historic district)...and the art museum is a good one (albeit at the other end of the city). There's a new visitor's center on 6th and market - start there to get an idea of what sites you want to see. They can help set you up on walking tours, etc. There's a great tapas restaurant on 2nd and chestnut called Amada. I went there with a bunch of friends not too long ago and we had a great time. As long as you stay in center city you're fine...just like any city there are some sketchy areas - but those aren't usually the areas tourists venture into anyway.

Yay for the liberty bell.. :)

No seriously, I had to go on like 45 school trips there as a child. I was like, Dude, enough with the bell, can we see something else?

South Street is a funky area to hang out in for the day. It has some tasty places to eat, and some bars. It's also right by Penn's Landing, so you can see wave to the lovely shore of Camden on the other side :p Phillies games are cool, but nothing really in walking distance of Citizen's park. I don't really know any great places to stay. I've never stayed in a hotel in Philly since I only lived 35 mins away.

If she likes to shop, take her to jewelers row.. I'd like to shop there! ;)

I used to mentor and I would always take the kids to the Franklin Institute cause it's "educational"...but really I wanted to go so I could play in the heart again....and the model airplanes :o

Seriously - add the Franklin Institute to your list. I think it's a cool place even for adults.

And if you have a car...you can get to New Hope in about 45 minutes. It's one of my favorite places! Right on the Delaware with a bunch of artsy shops, restaurants and outside bars right on the river. Your wife will love it. You can walk across the bridge into Lambertville - more antique shops and less artsy than New Hope, but still cool. You can drive about 5 minutes up the road from New Hope and hit Peddler's Village too - that's a little more quaint. And then further up the road there's a place where you can tube or raft down the Delaware.

Do you how homesick your posts make me!! :( ;)

New Hope is really awesome. It's such a great place to spend a sunday afternoon. I had my high school graduation dinner at the Lambertville Station! New Hope has a fun little play house too. Hey - Skip Philly and do a Bucks County weekend. I could plan your whole stay!

and if you want to buy 30 billion fake coach purses, go to Rice's flea market on saturday morning! haha..

Aw, I wish I lived at home sometimes.. We could have hung out in New Hope together CBG :)

I'm sorry for making you homesick :( If you ever come back to visit, let me know!

I agree with a Bucks County weekend! There are a ton of bed and breakfasts there too. I stayed at one right on the river several years ago - it was gorgeous! Oh - and sesame place is right around the corner :p And you could still easily get to Philly.

Living in Bucks, I would agree, although you could do both since Bucks County is only a half hour from Center City.

There is plenty to do in the area, depending on your interests. You could even gamble in Philly Park if you wanted to.
