. . . to my computer. I did something to Windows (not sure what) so that when I open my FLAC downloads they read as Zip files (not FLAC) and will not open in Winamp. Can anyone help me?

Sorry, can't help. But I thought I'd take the opportunity to say "hey"..... :)

Go to a FLAC file in windows > Right click > Properties > then you see OPENS WITH - click change and browse Winamp.

Im guessing you installled the zip program after winamp?

IF that doesn't work then just unistall winamp and re download + install.

Good choice with winamp, its the best :p

Perhaps you inadvertently compressed all of your downloads together as a zip file? If this is the case, navigate to the zip file and double click on it. A program like WinZip should open and from there you can choose a location to extract the files.

Now if you just happened to change the file extension, then change the extension back to normal and you should be fine.

Okay, I tried both of your suggestions, but the files are no longer reading as FLAC. They are reading as Zip files.

How do I unistall the zip program?

    Thanks

I may have changed the file extension, but I'm not sure how I did that - and more importantly, I have no idea how to change it back. Is there a free WinZip program that I can download in order to open these files?

    Thanks

  • My first thought was what Brisk said, but since that didn't work...

You may have had them all highlighted and accidentally copied one of the files onto them all...that happened to me once, but luckily I had the original files backed up and could reaccess them.

But if only the extension changed, you should be able to right click --> rename file --> change extension back to flac.

I tried to rename them but they still won't open. I have access to the original files so I can upload them again . . . however, I have tried that and when they upload they are in zip format rather than flac. Any other ideas/suggestions? Thanks

Have you tried just opening the file by itself? OK, now I'm guessing that the files download as a zip file to compress everything into one, neat file. If you try to open it and you can't, then do like I said before and install winzip or winrar. Personally, I would go with winrar because like LongRd. stated, it opens tons of file types.

Haven't heard from them. A long silence can be interpreted in a couple of ways so I'll have to keep you posted. In the meantime, the economy in Austin is really good so I'l just have to keep plugging away. Hope you get your files problem straightened out. Ta ta....
