I hurt my tooth on ice!

Somehow, while chewing ice as I always do... my tooth chipped, sorta on the side... I crunched down on some ice and felt this grit on the bite all of sudden, blargh! What can the dentist do to fix it? It's two behind my bottom canine tooth...

Welcome to the world of crowns. I guess if it isn't bad, they can probably just smooth it. Depends on how chipped it is.

One of my molars broke on some bacon one time.. yea.. I know. Bacon. Turns out I was grinding my teeth a lot and it weakened the tooth. :(

I had something similar happen to mine (but I was eating chicken when it happened). Mine was the second from the rear (don't know what that tooth is called). I guess it depends on how severe the chip is. In my case, it was a nasty chip and my dentist had to put a crown on it. Not a fun process and it'll cost you (and I have insurance, too)!!!
    Rock on!

No insurance at the moment, fuck-shit-damn... I hope you guys are right about a crown. I was imagining them having to pull it out with some horrible instrument... then having a gaping hole in my mouth where everyones attention would be drawn to, no fun! :o

They'd rather NOT pull your tooth. Pulling a tooth to them means they'll never make money off that tooth again. And putting a crown cost a lot more than pulling a tooth anyway so naturally they'll do everything they can to "crown" it. Don't sweat it having to get pulled. Without seeing the damage, I can safely tell you it's not in need of that (and I'm no dentist either). I'll bet it needs a crown. I think the worst case scenario for you is that they'll tell you that you need root canal (which also means you'll need a crown). If so, this procedure is going to suck and cost you about twice as much as getting just the crown. Pray it's not that bad!

  • I think they say something like not to chew on ice....unless you like your ice on the expensive side.

I broke a tooth when I accidentally bit on an unpopped popcorn kernel 2 yrs ago and I don't have insurance.

but it was a tooth attached to a bridge so it is a whole major procedure to get it fixed.

Basically it got infected and it was fractured and I just had to have it pulled on Thursday. (ouch!)

I mean it was a major procedure for me b/c of the particular tooth that I broke and that it was attached to a bridge.

A bridge? I obviously know nothing more about my teeth other than they should be white and smell like mint... :o

my back tooth has a root canal, and then the next tooth had been pulled, so I had a 'bridge' that connected those two teeth to the tooth in front of it-which was the one that broke.
