Good Movie. I didn't read The Body though.
These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.

to the original point, not really.

The Body is a short story in the book "different seasons" that also includes the story that would become Shawshank redemption. I would recommend getting the book by Stephen King. His best work, imho. The best story being the Breathing Method"

    Definitely.

Hard to believe that the fat kid the only one made a long career for himself. River Phoenix, what a lost of talent! :(

This Halloween will be 15 years since he ODed.

I watched My Own Private Idaho the other day. What a film and what a talent.

Different Seasons was the first novel I ever read. I bought it when I was 12 after seeing Stand By Me and thus began my love of reading.

The conversation between Gordie and Chris in the movie where Chris breaks down gets me every time. River Phoenix is definitely a missed actor.

Saw that last night---the words on the bottom were a little annoying but I did learn at lot!!!

And.......I was just reminiscing last night that Stephen King has written SO Many of my favorite books/movies:

    Shawshank Redemption
    Stand by Me
    The Green Mile
    The Shining
    Carrie
    Salem's Lot
    The Dead Zone

    and on and on!!!

    Stephen King is AWESOME!
So I'll just lie down and wait for the dream

    Well sure. That too :)

    "jesus, does anyone?"

I loved that book. LOVED IT. After I saw the movie I had to read the book which I think sparked my love of Stephen King. I saw the movie when I was in jr high and I think it was the first time a movie actually moved me... besides you know Bambi when I was a kid :p:o

pfft  what does it matter that the body is a short story. the OP was just drawing parallels between the two quests and all that entails; comparing content, not the medium through which the stories were delivered.

It's probably the best in my opinion. I can't think of any other ones that can make you laugh, cry and thrilled.

    Forrest Gump?

The ones that are really known for being coming of age movies like Reality Bites, St Elmos Fire, Fandango, etc. were all horrible.

Forrest Gump was more of an epic journey type of film in my opinion because most of it was about his adulthood. I've always looked at coming of age films as the ones that chronicles the adolescences before the characters are fully mature. The Graduate is a great example. I always thought the characters' ages should be around pre-teen, teen, and college age range for majority of the film's length.

But you're right bout St. Elmo's Fire and Reality Bites, those sucked. I'll add the American Pie movies as well. But most are mainly comedies.

The Graduate, Stand By Me and the original Sandlot are probably the three good drama-comedy true coming of age films I can think of.

Love those last three that you named, I actually really enjoyed the first couple American Pie movies as well........can relate a hell of alot more to those than St. Elmos Fire. Fast Times At Ridgemont High and Dazed And Confused are classic as well. Do you like The Outsiders?

Your last three are great examples as well. i remember reading The Outsiders for class in junior high and then watched the movie. I didn;t realized how young Tom Cruise and Matt Dillion were. Ralph Machio was in that one too, along with a whole bunch of others.

Love love love Stand by Me.
I own it on DVD and watch it a lot. It reminds me of my childhood. Not the time the movie portrays but just watching it as a kid. My dad used to call me lard ass just to piss me off even though i was not fat.
I love all the 80's movies that you all have named.
The Outsiders is in my top five favorite
Goonies, awesome.....read this line outloud in your Sloth voice ...Baby! Ruth! Ruth! Baby Ruth! Chhoooooccolate!
