Surf Advice

I am going to Thailand next week and I have arranged for a 1/2 day surfing lesson. Since I live on the east coast and never go into the ocean due to the cold, I am a horrible swimmer. Does anyone here surf on a regular basis? Will I be okay for the lesson, will I have a harder time with a life jacket, should I cancel it all together and just sun myself?
Thanks for the feedback..

hahahaha that video was histerical.
a half days seems like a long time. i get tired with only 2 hours of surfing:) and the life jacket might make it harder to paddle but you should be ok, but i would deffinatly try it, it is soo much fun.
i remember watching that guy live....:D....and he made complete sense to me...;)
as to the topic at hand, you need to be a pretty good swimmer to surf....for one time the lifejacket may be ok but it might throw your balance off....have fun!
