ESPN is reporting this at the moment, what do you think about this being done during the season?

Not in favor of it. Test it in the spring or the minors, not in the middle of the f'n season...

it ridiculous to implement this in late August. Wait until next year. I am in favor of replay on home runs but how the heck do you do this in freakin' late August - stupid. Bud Selig is a buffoon.

Why wait? If you have the technology to get the calls right and fix the problem, use it...as soon as its available. And if its available this Thursday, bust that shit out.

I think its a good thing.

"That was definately a home run, the replay shows it from every angle, but the umps got it wrong. So instead of the Cubs winning the world series on a game 6 walk off by Ramirez in the bottom of the ninth, they will play game 7 tomorrow."

    Fuck that. Get it right.

I honestly thought they were going to wait until the playoffs

Suprised they are putting it in now

I guess its better now with all the pennant races and wild card

    everything you said.

with the playoffs right around the corner, this is the perfect time to introduce it to the game.
  • My only issue is that it's starting Thursday... Back when this ball really got rolling, the MLBPA agreed to replay, but said it should wait for the post-season since it's not fair for a player/team to benefit from something "today" that they couldn't benefit from in April. And it seemed that Selig and the umps agreed. A team may have lost a game on a bad call earlier in the season, and now a divisional rival can win on a replay call...that's not fair. Why should they benefit from potential replay calls that their rivals didn't get?

I can understand that they may have changed their minds bc they want a "test-run" leading up to the playoffs, but this seems so arbitrary and sort of unfair. Even if you take away the April/today aspect...there will certainly be teams playing more games than others between Thursday and the end of the season, giving some teams an extra shot at taking advantage of replay calls in their favor.

I like the idea, I just want a level playing field...and this isn't it.

It's the dumbest thing ever. Either start it at the beginning of the season or the start of the post-season, but not now. Now you're just screwing teams over that could've used it earlier in the year. This is just another example of the sheepish, spineless Commissioner's Office following through with something just because of media and public pressure.(I.E. instant replay, steroids, Barry, draft day) As far as instant replay goes though I think it's okay for fair or foul home runs. There's a reason baseball is what it is and part is because of the umpires. And I wouldn't change it for a second - better or worse. Watch that town hall they had on HBO about baseball. Andy Van Slyke had the best comment on this subject.

My worst fear with all of this is it sliding down a slippery slope. It wouldn't surprise me if they aren't considering expanding this instant replay to other calls.

Then you'll have the NFL on a diamond, ridiculus.

The thing is, it's not like they invented instant replay last week. The NFL, NHL, NBA and NCAA football have been using it for years.

Personally, I would have waited until the beginning of next season to implement it after testing it out in Spring Training.

It just seems odd to change the way the game is played in the middle of the season, even if it will make for "better calls."

I'm totally in favor of it, but not at this stage in the season. I think they should have tested it out in the Arizona Fall League and Spring Training next year to work out any kinks in the system. I really wonder what Selig is thinking sometimes.

    yay for better technology.
indifferent as to when it's introduced. it's probably better for people to piss and moan now, rather than in the playoffs.
besides, my team won't have to worry much...we don't like to hit home runs.

I'm definitely for it. About time they get some of those calls right. That's the bottom line.

My only problem is the timing. Isn't it unfair to the players and teams that had disputed calls back in May or June?
