11 Days On My First Vacation Cruise.....

.....and followed no news/sports whatsoever. I was so busy spending time in West Palm Beach then off to the Cruise Ship Carnival Triumph. With stops in Cozemel, Mexico....Grand Caymen....and Ocho Rios, Jamaica. With all the kids, snorkeling, shows, shopping, climbing Dunns River Falls and meeting a relative there was no time for news at all.

In that time the Red Sox made a major trade (still don't know who they got in return), I'm sure they were other trades too, somebody won the Tour De France, politics, an earthquake in a California and lots more that I missed.

Sometimes no news is good news or just a welcome break from stuff......like a fellow passenger said when leaving the ship..."Welcome back to Reality". It was an out of this world trip!

  • Yup, went on a 6 day vacation last winter in St. Thomas and I got no cell data connection on my phone and the hotel had no internet connection. After having the shakes for the first day or so from withdrawals I found I loved being completely disconnected.

That's funny, we just recently returned from our Carnival Miracle 8 day honeymoon cruise and can certainly relate....I had no clue what was going on..some dude at the poker table told me that Willie(mets former manager) was just fired and I was like 'no shit?' Then continued to get hammered and play cards :)..

Wow I didn't think anyone would post here. But....

We docked in Ocho Rios at 8 and we had to be back on the ship by 3:30 we got back by 3:15 it was close. I didn't have time to eat any Jamaican food but my uncle who took us to Dunns river Falls took us to his house at the top of a mountain gave us some bun and cheese, fruits. Then he went outside and cut us some coconuts and we drank the coconut water and then the soft jelly inside.

Even though it was hot out but cool in the mountains the coconut water was almost ice cold. That was cool then we had some sugar cane which was also cool in that it feels like brushing your teeth with pure natural sugar water.

Yes I did spend 9 days in Vegas about a month ago and in between I went up to Martha's Vineyard, MA for work. With these wealthy folks that I work for I'm here there and everywhere. I'm home here in Maryland till December when we head off to Palm Beach for the next 6 months.

Then again they could get the urge and head off to NYC for a play on their private jet and of course I've got to pack up and go.

It had to be Jamaica cause that's the place of my birth briefly. My lady and I had some smoke, Red Stripes some Roots drink that's suppose to give that extra umph in the ship's bed. :)

The Grand Caymen was cool, small island we stayed there longer (8am-7pm) so we snorkled and if you go you MUST visit STINGRAY CITY. Basically a sand bar out in the sea which takes 35 mins to get to where you'll find hundreds of stingrays. The same like the one that killed the Crocodile Hunter however these are doscile from being fed since 1950. They can't hunt in the wild anymore and are fed by humans like myself. Careful though cause they do have teeth that can hurt so you just let the squid float in front of their mouths and they'll suck it in.

My daughter was terrified of them and whatever you do don't jump around, just walk calmly amongst them. Our Captain did show us the barb on their tails and what it can do so it's good to pay attention. We also went hunting for lobsters and our captain showed us how to catch them. My daughter dove down brought back a large counch shell, what she'll do with it heaven knows.

Cozemel....snorkeling in deeper waters not as beautiful as GC but still nice. Watch out for the locals in the shops, if you shop bargain their asses down. We bought a ring for one of the kids which started out at $420 and got it down to $70 and probably could've gotten it for less.

Same thing with the excursions, don't buy them on the ship buy them from the locals for snorkeling $70 on the ship $35 in town. They're all right their when you get off the ship.

I'm going to the Eastern Carribbean next year with certainly another stop in Jamaica, cruising is the way to go.

I didnt like what I saw of Jamaica. You could tell they have a bad governments and people are very poor. The worst part was after the waterfalls in Ocho Rios, you get sent through a maze of Jamaicans harrassing you to buy shit. They just wont take no for an answer.

    Neat!! Great description!

The only island I have been to in the Carribean is Barbados. Which I fell in love with. I want to go back there.

No worse than what we have here in the US, it's just we have become very good at how corrupt our Congress and Administration can be over the years.
As for the guys at the falls trying to make a buck is all the same all over the island.

They tried to sell us a video of our almost hour and half trip up the falls and i got them down to $20 for everything down from $40 but my uncle had my cash. I thought about it and I'd probably look at it once or twice as my lady said so I just walked away to enjoy the rest of the day with my uncle.

We saw a really bad accident and instead of putting the guy in an ambulance, they put him in the back of a random pickup truck from what it looked like. I know that it was bad all over the island, the funniest thing I saw was that they were trying to sell Bob Marley - Legend for about 50 bucks..........yes, the exact same one that we sell here in the states. Its pretty cool how easy it is to get ganja........you dont have to ask, everybody just asks you.
