Hey guys, I don't post on here very often, I mainly just read around some mostly to keep up with PJ news and rumors, but I have noticed that there are a lot of people in or around their thirties or "Generation X" and I need some help from you guys or others. I am about to starting writing my first script (I don't want to bore you, so I'll spare you the details) and I want it to have kind of a '90s slacker kind of film ala Clerks, Singles, Reality Bites, and, well, Slacker. My problem is that most websites with info about these kinds of films only cite the above mentioned. I'm only 19, so I wasn't really into these kinds of movies at the time and I'm looking for more to watch as a kind of research. I was wondering if any of you guys had any suggestions.

    Black Sheep.

A huge chunk of the movie even takes place at a Mudhoney concert in Seattle, 1996.

Billy Madison and Tommy Boy also nicely reflect that mid-90's era. If you're more interested in late 90's, check out Dirty Work featuring Artie Lange and Norm McDonald. I'd also recommend Beavis & Butthead Do America. Chase, from 1994, featuring Charlie Sheen and Henry Rollins. The Cable Guy, from 1996. Setting looks like Seattle and the soundtrack is pure alternative rock including contributions from Mike McCready and Jerry Cantrell.

Oh, and how could I forget. Waynes World 1 & 2. Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. Hype!, the grunge documentary from 1996 has a slacker aspect as well.

I've seen all of these movies, but they're just not what I'm looking for. I need more of a drama/comedy that kind of deals with issues and people's lives more, not so much dumb, fun (but good) comedies.

  • Empire Records and Airheads did a pretty god job of exaggerating the Gen-x stereotypes.

I'm not sure this qualifies as a comedy (or very good), but maybe "High Fidelity" with John Cusack and Jack Black? Just a suggestion......
