Did I get screwed on eBay?

First off, this is not a gripe thread. My issue is not with eBay, its with a particular item. I bought The Who's "Quadrophenia" on vinyl the other day. It was a Buy It Now for $30 and $8.50 for shipping. This is the description:
QUADROPHENIA
COVER HAS ONE SMALL SCRATCH UPPER LEFT CORNER
TRACK RECORDS 1973 LONDON'
TWO ALBUMS AND AWESOME BOOKLET IN MINT CONDITION
http://img526.imageshack.us/my.php?image=60cd1fy9.jpg

I got it in the mail today and this is what it looks like:

So, basically, my question is this. Did I get screwed or is this standard? I really haven't bought a ton of stuff on eBay and only a couple of records, so I don't really know if this is what I should expect a 40 year old record to look like or if it should be in better shape for what the description says. I do know I'm not happy with it. So do you guys think that this is return worthy? Should I file a complaint? Should I just leave some bad feedback? Or should I just shut my whiny little mouth get what I deserve for purchasing something on eBay without a proper description? Any help is much appreciated.

  • That is hardly mint. Imo anyway. Guess maybe the record itself is? I would contact the seller and explain your complaint. Possibly you can come up with a compromise before going down that road called "negative feedback".

The description says it is in mint condition and it is not the case. Even for a 40 years old vinyl.
The guy should better have precised the conditions and not say it is mint.

IMO, if you are not looking for anything but mint, only buy mint. dont buy stuff with a scratch anywhere. most auctions say, "if you are a collector this is not for you" type of thing.....i dunno, i think it looks okay to me. you knew it wouldnt be in great shape, but you bought it. ive done the same and am satisfied. if you are in it for listening, be happy, if you are in it for collecting, only buy prestine. my .00002C

for what its worth, ive bought my fair share of vinyl from ebay. the only thing i complained about was a warped merkin ball single.

I agree with what you say. I've alos bought used vinyls that were a bit scratched.
But here, the description said "COVER HAS ONE SMALL SCRATCH UPPER LEFT CORNER".
Seeing the pics of the vinyls, this is not just ONE SMALL SCRATCH...

is a small scratch the diameter of a dime or the length of a lighter? or is it a really fucked up corner in general? who knows....you have to be a smart buyer on ebay, i would chalk this up to learning, thats all.

The scratch in the upper left corner isn't that bad and its clearly shown in the picture. Its the split edges that bother me and they aren't mentioned at all in the description. Its not about something being misinterpreted, its about the fact that a fairly big detail was left out of the description. If I had known the real shape its in, I wouldn't have bought it. I don't necessarily have to have MINT, I just want something thats in all around good shape and this isn't.

You got screwed over, definitely do something about it. People dont deserve to get away with crap like that. I have been screwed over on ebay too.

By the way, there is an actual grading system for vinyl. I dont buy things of ebay unless they are graded properly unless I am willing to take the risk which isnt very often.
