Getting a Dog

Please HELP!!! I am Hoping to be able to move out with the GF in the near future and we have been discussing getting a dog once the move happens. We have been doing a lot of reading about different breeds finding one that would be good for us. We are looking...

-Medium to large sized dog
-Something that does not shed all that much
-Playful, yet easily trained to not jump or overwhelm people
-MOST IMPORTANTLY: Great with children

I have been reading a lot about different breeds and have come to the conclusion that a Boxer would fit the bill perfectly.

My question is, are there any Boxer owners out there that can help me make my decision. Or, are there other people out there with dogs that meet this description. My family has a Lab currently, and I love him to death, but I know that they shed a lot. Your advice it appreciated

My old roommate had a boxer and I helped raise it from a puppy. It was an awesome dog. They do have lots of energy though. But I think with proper training as opposed to having the dog being spoiled everyday like this one would have helped a lot with that.

Judging by your description, that's the perfect dog for you. It's on my short list of dogs I would own.

With solid training they can be your friend, helper, and hero.

As I was reading through you're description my first thought was BOXER! I was raised with boxer's as pets so can confirm they are awesome with kids very friendly and playful and remain that way through out their lives.

I'm a little biased though as they are my favourite breed :)
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

Dude, get a beagle. They are awesome. They are basically little people. They are very intelligent. Mine figures out ways to get out of everything... he's learned to climb fences, even. On the downside, they are also stubborn. But, that's half the fun.

Seriously, look into beagles. Snoopy was a beagle. Underdog was a beagle. My dog is a beagle. Obviously, a good lineage. ;)

Adopt from a shelter, or if you are set on a pure bred go to a rescue organization for that breed. My cousin's girlfriend wanted Yorkies so she adopted one from a rescue organization in Indiana, and got her second one in Kansas.

The wife and I got a Yorkie-Poodle mix last year. He is AWESOME!! He is just over 1 year old and weight like 5 lbs. We got a small one but they do come in bigger sizes. He is great with kids and doesn't shed at all!!! I am very allergic to dogs and have not sneezed once with him. He is very playful and loves to run around the backyard. The only problem is he is a nit barky. He thinks he is a bad ass and doesn't realize he is smaller than EVERY other dog out there. HA. Here is a picture of the little guy:

We live in NJ and got him from a breeder in Kentucky. If you want the breeder info send me a PM and I will give you all the info. Godd luck.
Hey, you wouldn't hire a clown to fix a leak in the jon so why do you let these hooligans tear down the biz? YEEAAHHH. I don't care if he is Mr. Notorious BIG, can he croon?
