I bought a bottle of beer in Belgium once called 'Delerium tremens'. It was 13% alcohol or something and tasted like shit. It had pictures of flying pink elephants on the bottle e.t.c. Crazy shit.

They make the best fucking beers on the planet. Delicious!! Try Leffe Blonde if you haven't already. Excellent!

Byrnzie I had that Delerium at a small bar called Eulogy in Philadelphia. I actually enjoyed it but I was a bit buzzed already :)

I enjoy the mass produced ones like hoegarrden and stella a lot. I have not had a ton from Belgium but i've had a lot of belgium "style" beers brewed by micro's here in the US and almost all of them have been great.

Ommegang from Cooperstown NY makes some very fine beers. Their 3 philosiphers and Abbey Ale are AWESOME.

  • There is an HD channel called MOJO that runs a show called "Three Sheets". Its a travel show that revolves around drinking. Its really a great show as the host drinks alcoholic beverages with the locals. They even show him staggering home and hungover the next day.

ANYWAY, they did a show in Belgium and it was really great! He even went to a monastery where the monks brew beer.
  • Yes. I only like Belgian Ales!
Chimay, Kwak, Abbay, Gueze Boon, Iris. I don't know all the names of them. I work in a restaurant that changes the beer and wine list weekly and anytime a new Belgian Ale shows up, I drink it. They usually have about 50 beers available.
I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.

Go to either of the Green's Liquor stores in Atlanta and they have a plethora of Belgiums. The one on Ponce has a special walk in cooler (Belgiums are suppose to be served chilled, not ice cold) and it is full of nothing but super Belgium beers.

i really want to try westvleteren, but i hear that it's only available at the belgian monastery where it's brewed.

of all the belgian-style ales produced in other parts of the world, unibroue (quebec) and allagash (maine) are my favorites. ommegang (cooperstown) is very good too (and the brewery's location is ideal for you baseball fans). victory (pennsylvania) produces a few good belgian styles as well.

I used to think Stella was a pretty nice beer, until I found myself in Belgium and thought, geez that stuff tastes like piss water compared to all these other brilliant local brews they've got around here.
