Restaurant recommendations in Memphis?

My husband and I are going to Memphis next weekend to see Dave Matthews Band. We are staying on Front Street downtown.

Does anyone have any suggestions of great places to eat in the downtown area? We are not huge seafood people but like any other kind of food and we definitely want to find a good BBQ place.

Obviously can't go wrong with the BBQ. And the other suggestion you will here a bunch is Huey's. It's a very good burger place, huge onion rings. Memphis has good food pretty much everywhere... go for the hole in the wall, you'll be happiest that way. :)

Yep we always look for the hole in the wall places - usually the best way to go, but when you are in a strange city, that is sometimes scary :P

Probably BBQ and maybe fish - we like fish but not shellfish or sushi. Otherwise whatever is good and close to Front Street and Autozone Ballpark :) I think Beale street is not too far from that area.

Rendezvous sounds really good :) What about McEwans on Monroe? Tripadvisor has lots of great reviews about them and also Hueys.

I have a feeling I am going to eat way too much next weekend.......

Rendevouz is a good BBQ place.

For a nice place to eat, check out Felicia Suzanne's. She is an excellent chef from my town. :)http://www.feliciasuzanne.com/view/54

Isaac Hayes' is supposed to be another excellent chef owned place, but I've never been there.

There is another little place that has BBQ and fried chicken, I think that some friends told me was really good and cheap, but I cannot recall the name. I will let you know if I remember it.

A couple more nice local places in Memphis. A farmer I buy my produce from sells to both of these, plus Felecia Suzannes, so you know you are getting fresh, local food. :)

This is probably the nicest of them all. http://www.huntphelan.com/

These are all good special occasion places, but if you can afford it and you want a gourmet meal, one of these would be great.

For good BBQ, stick with Rendevouz. :)

Thanks - although I think they are a little upscale for what we are looking for this visit :) Maybe for a special occasion though !

I thought that would probably be the case....I can't afford to eat there except on our annaversiary or other occastion.

Definitely check out Rendevouz though. It is good and affordable! I'm still trying remember the name of the place with good, cheap BBQ and fried chicken.

I got a hold of my friend.....he went crazy when I mentioned the fried chicken place.

Gus' Fried Chicken, it is on Front Street. It does not look like much, but it is tasty and cheap!

He mentioned another good BBQ and catfish place....Neely's. I actually prefer this place to Rendevous for BBQ, but Rendevous is more famous.

These may be what you are looking for.

i may be too late, but it's important to note this....

if by chance you don't eat at rendevouz, you will regret it for the rest of your life and you will likely throw yourself from a bridge in san francisco.

yes, it's that fantastic. start off with the sausage/cheese plate and follow it with dry ribs. afterwards, you can come back and have sex with this post.

After you guys recommended Rendezvous, I was talking to someone at work who drives 3 hours to Memphis a few times a year just to eat there :) We will for sure check it out!
  • My girlfriend's aunt is from Memphis and she always goes to B.B. Kings on Beale Street. She's a drunk and she dances really weird, so if you want to see a freak show check it out. She's not talking to us because she got so drunk when she visited earlier this month that she pissed on our floor and I had the audacity to get angry. I had to throw some sneakers away. She didn't even offer to pay for the cleaning. If you see a crazy 50 year old woman humiliating herself on the dance floor, tell her Marc says hi.
    I like bands.
