Yeah I used to live down the road at Bay and 5th in Santa Monica.. and The Whaler was my spot!!! BEST place for mid-day margaritas in the sun:D
That it is. Always met some great people there. Sadly I believe the place is closing it's doors on the 30th of this month!?!? Ask around, maybe show up for the last day. I'm sure it''ll be worth the trip.

It wasn't until that I was in my mid to late 20's that I looked back and realized that I had seen some pretty cool shit over the years. I'm not sure if it was due to finally developing the ability to appreciate beauty, or from having worked too many lame jobs and having slaved over college textbooks for long enough to know just how good I had it.
At any rate, when it comes to my most favorite scenic spot in cali, I'd have to say it's a tie between the coastal views in torrey pines and carmel. Cheetah's nude dancing in san diego follows close behind. The hottest nude dancers I have ever seen are at Cheetah's. On the other end of the spectrum are the poverty stricken crackwhore dancers in tijuana.
Those are the ones that also dance if you know what I mean. In fact, the dancing is actually just to let you know what you're missing if you don't follow her backstage and cough up some dough. My friend once summed it up pretty well when he said, "It's like we're eating the scabs from their emotional scars." Of course, neither he nor I patroned that club beyond the price of margaritas and we did not spend much time there.
But, I don't let that fool me into thinking that we were morally superior to those who did stick around. Rather, I think we were just lucky to be guys who got laid on a regular basis without having to resort to desperate measures. I personally have known men who in every other aspect of their lives were relatively moral aside from what they did in Tijuana.
And I don't think it was coincidence that they were dorks who otherwise could not get laid. Ultimately, it's a matter of the have's versus the have nots. It's easy to say that one is above thievery when one is awarded material possession by default.
