This why the MLB needs a salary cap.

  • Ummmm no it's not. It means the Marlins are cheapskates and are pocketing the revenue sharing.

A-Rod is an absurd talent, but scouting, managing, players, and savvy win titles in baseball.

Hence why the Championship list looks like this, and the second the Yankees got away from the above formula all the money in the world couldnt help them. Look at the last 15 years.

This is correct. The amount of money changing hands through revenue sharing is insane. There needs to be a minimum before a cap.

  • This is one of my favorite sports topics. While I don't think a salary cap would hurt, I think Major League Baseball is doing just fine as it is. The real problem, as mentioned before, is the owners that pocket revenue sharing. Since I live in Pittsburgh, I have to hear so many people say how lack of a salary cap is the reason the Pirates stink. I always say "No, crappy ownership is the reason the Pirates stink."

There are so many arguments that prove that, in spite of a drastic payroll gap, baseball has a great deal of competitive balance.

  • Why not have a player salary cap??? Make the highest pay possible 10 mil. Thats alot of fucking money. 28 million fucking dollars???? That pretty sickening.

I've thought it about football for a long time. 5 to 10 million - draw the line somewhere. The extra money will come by means of endorsements or on the side vetures. More players will get more of the money too. Please tell me what the problem with this is.

Yup, and that crappy ownership has given us Cam Bonifay, David Littlefield, Jim Tracy, Lloyd McClendon, Gene LaMont, an inability to master the Rule-5 draft, and losing Aramis Ramirez -- the best homegrown talent they've had since Barry Bonds. Man, I hate my favorite baseball team sometimes. Especially when I think about how bad things have been for the last 15 years.

The Marlins are holding their own against the Mets with that 21.8 mil players salary tonight. Also the Marlins have one of the worst or THE worst stadium in MLB.
They need and will apparently get a new stadium at the old Orange Bowl in order to compete with the rest of baseball. I don't feel their sadness, revenue sharing has kept them afloat.

In a few years they'll be called the Miami Marlins.

Baseball is making way too much money for the players to agree to a max contract. It would be one thing if MLB was bleeding money, but the real problem is that some teams aren't spending enough.

They choose NOT to with revenue sharing holding the up even though some of their owners are billionaires. Billionaires refusing to spend go figure.

mlb will never get a salary cap because its player union is the strongest among any of the four major sports. it is certainly not the player's fault that certain teams don't spend any money and pocket the money from revenue sharing.

The Marlins DON'T HAVE MONEY TO POCKET. and the organization isn't cheap. they don't own the stadium so they only make money off the game tickets. They DO NOT make money off parking, food, drinks or anything else. Marlins CAN'T afford big money players even if they WANTED to. Before you say anything like that I again I think you should check out some facts.

I agree with you about the stadium, I've been to the last 2 opening days and what a nightmare. One better eat/drink BEFORE going to the game cause you could miss an entire game waiting at the 4 concession stands. It's too bad they appear to not recieve a cut of the parking and concessions. I'm sure that will change when the new stadium is built, let's see then if they start to spend or spend on stars they already have....hint Hanley Ramirez.

Also as for revenue sharing I don't recall seeing the Marlins turning any revenue sharing they may have recieved.
