Mauer and Morneau is the best 1-2 hitting combo in baseball.

Anyway, I still think the Tigers will sort out their lineup issues and take the AL Central. Boston will win the East with the Yankees getting the wild card. The Angels will win the west. I don't track the national league much, but it looks pretty clear that the Dodgers are going to roll over whoever else lands in the playoffs anyway. Hopefully the Yankees and the Sox exhaust each other in round one of the playoffs, giving the Tigers the chance to edge the Angels and pull off the upset to get into the series, where they will get smoked by the Dodgers like they did by the Cardinals last time around.

actually, from the sound of it ... it appears it would take an team's entire farm system to get Halliday.

With a pitching rotation that consists of Halladay, Hamels, Blanton, Martinez, and Moyer, the Phillies go on a second half tear and BURRY everyone in the playoffs winning the first back-to-back titles for an NL team since the '75-'76 Reds. GOOD MORNING!!! 8-)

The classy Sox cannot play the Yanks in round one.

    East - Sox
    Central - Tigers

    East - Phillies
    Central - Cards
    West - Dodgers
    Wild Card - Rockies

How do they set the matchups? I guess I never paid attention before, but I figured the wild card team would play the winningest team, which I figure would be the Sox and Yankees, even though both of them will probably have better records than the other division leaders.

two teams in the same division cannot play each other in the first round of the playoffs. so if the AL went like this

    #1 Red Sox
    #2 Tigers
    #3 Rangers
    #4 Yankees

The Sox woould play Texas and Detroit would play New York.. so on and so forth

Ah, so in other circumstances though, the wild card would play the top team right?
