    crapped out?

Do you see that little "sad ipod" icon?

If so, drop the iPod on the ground two or three times. Should work.

When my nano "crapped the bed" the clean-up was pretty severe. It was actually after the new nano's had been released. But they gave me an new old one instead of the newer model. It will probably be the same for you.

nice! how long did you have said 20gb ipod before this happened though? merely curious.

my dear 20gb just died last week.....that sad little ipod character finally showed up. :(

however, i won a 30gb black video ipod a bit over a year ago that i never opened...sold it on ebay the end of last year....and actually made enough to now buy a new 80gb by only adding maybe $40. very nice. it *just* arrived today...hubby is starting to load it up for me. i also got a nice little pj inscription.....:D

I've just installed the new version of Itunes on my new pc, and my pc hasnt been right since...takes ages for windows to load up, if at all, and it also installs all sorts of shit that I dont want. I mean, "Bonjour"...wtf is that (and no smartarse comments about "Its hello in French :P)? All I want is itunes so I can put songs on my ipod, not all the other crap that comes with it. Apple suck!

Anyone remember a time when we weren't addicted to computers and iPods???

    Ahhh, those were the days..

they'll probably give you another one of the same model (if you are still under warranty or have apple care). I don't think the ones they give you are new though- I think they actually take the old ones that people turn in and fix them and then redistribute. I had a 40g that I had replaced 6 or 7 times before the screen broke and I finally had to get a new ipod altogether.

    who's addicted?
i fail to see the connection to that with this thread. i am not addicted to my ipod....could argue for/against the computer ;)....but really, no. they are wonderful devices in and of themselves, help you connect to the world....thru music....and/or thru fast/easy communication of the internet. both are GOOD things imo. you can read and listen to radio on a computer.....listen to music thru an ipod...what of it?

i LOVE my computer for all the access it gives me. and, i LOVE my ipod for the ease of which i can carry soooo much music around with me, at my fingertips.

so no, i do NOT think pre-computer/ipod as being "those were the days"...not at all.

also, the fact that you type such on your computer...on an internet bbs....is ironic at the very least. :D

  • the only way you get a replacement is if you have apple care or are still under warranty.

    and the replacements are refurbished...

obviously you have tried to "restart" the ipod - and you have tried to charge it without loading it...so, my guess is that your drive burned out. this actually happens a lot.

    sucks.

I have an 80 vid, tht has been okay for a full year! (this is a rarity for me, as I had a 60 that crapped a lot, and i got a 'tweener-40 that I had to replace 5 times...)

overall it's really more about convenience with being able to carry most of your catalog and not about sound quality or dependability even...

You're right, it was just a thought that came to mind. Sure they're great, but a lot of people have become so dependent on them, they can't be without them. Also people had more social interaction before they came along. I won't lie, I'm an addict too. I can't imagine life without the convenience of my pc and cell phone, even though people evolved for a million years without them..

Yeah, but now that the flash memory is coming online it should be more dependable. The mechanical drives are just bad news in that situation.

It just sucks they are dragging their feet with big flash memory and the cost of it all. 32 gigs is 500 bucks.... yeah, no thanks. Great innovation, but not nearly worth the cost.

    i disagree. :)
seriously. i don't think anyone had more social interaction. in the really not-so-distant past......people were even MORE isolated, due to lack of travel options, long journeys, and no other form of communications outside of mailed letters....so only the small circle of people who lived/worked nearby. i have just as much "real life" social interaction as i did before computers/ipods.

i think if anything, the computer has opened up the world to a LOT of people who in 'real life' social situations, they falter....but here...they can thrive. also, people with issues such as agoraphobia, shut-ins, people with helath issues that keep them home-bound, etc...now have an *outlet* they'd not have. the time i spend at a computer, if i wasn't here/.....i'd actually be doing some work ;)...and if at home, i'd probably be doing solo activities in any case. i don't use my prime-time social time for being online.

point is, there is nothing *bad* about technology. sure, there may be some who abuse/overuse it....but more than likely, such people would've had other issues/crutches in places in place of computers...so same difference imo.

xavier - for the record, i LOVE to read....and yes, do the bulk of it thru printed matter. :) however, i have hated radio for a long time now....long befre ipods got invented, and mosly b/c NY radio has gotten really sucky. :p

I think it really depends on when. Obviously if they have some old ones lying around they'll use any excuse to get rid of them, whereas if it's far enough along the line that they only have the new generation ipods then it's more convenient to give you a comparable one of them. At this present moment in time they probably still have loads of generation 5 ipods.
