in Germany it's about $4000 U S equivalent, and it's mandatory to get your license, so $600 ain't so bad...

It's around the same here. I think it's something like $580? I'm not sure though. I didn't take it.

Yep, it's around 3-4000 dollars here too. Well, since the dollar is so low right now it's probably a bit less. But still, that's fucking expensive! People here have to wait until they're 18, so I guess people have more money saved up when they're 18 than when they're 16. 600 dollars is a lot too, though.

    such bullshit.
You should get a reduction in your car insurance though. Over time it might even out.

I don't remember what I spent for drivers ed back in the day but I don't imagine it was more than $75.

My high school offered it and I think there was just one low fee.

In Maryland it's $450 and it's manditory. It was free when I was in high school but it's a great idea for teenagers because of the way they drive.

It's only $45 here to take the written test and the driving test is free (Delaware). The driving test I think is only an hour or two. Scary isn't it?

My oldest son just turned 16, and he will be going to drivers ed. The $600 is a bit surprising, however. I guess no new guitar toys for a while. :(

and 600 dollars!? focking hell. it's around 1 300-1 400 euros here! and that's just the first part. there's a second part/course around a year later (mandatory to those who want a proper lisence, the one you get after the first course is only temporary) and that's a few hundred euros too.

    me too! :)

and i don't know if it differs from state to stae, but at least here in NY - at least when i learned - you did not *have* to take drivier's ed. obviously, you need to learn somewhere, somehow...but as long as you pass the written and practical exams - as in driving - you can get your license.

i took driver's ed b/c it was free :)...and yes, i did NOT want to have to deal with learning from either of my parents!

In Alberta (Canada) you can get your learner's permit at fourteen and your driver's licence at sixteen. Don't know if that's still the case. Regardless, I took driver's ed. (apprx. $35), got my learner's permit a month after turning sixteen and had my driver's licence within two months of my birthday.

Woah, thats a mental price. Here, you pay about €40 for a theory test, and then yer pretty much good to go with a full licenced driver in the car with you. Its €38 for your full licence test.

I didn't either. Dad took me around the neighborhood a few times, I read the book they handed out, and took the test....that's it.
