I saw a thread about a week ago on a fantasy basketball league. I think that was a thread about a league that was all members of the message board.

Anyway, I figured I would start up a new thread for anyone who wants to post their teams, or ask advice, or just talk fantasy basketball. I'd love to hear any advice on what I've got going on here.

We have an eight team league, here's my team...

Chris Paul, PG
Michael Redd, SG/SF
John Salmons, SG/SF
Josh Smith, SF/PF
Carlos Boozer, PF/C
Rudy Gay, SF/PF
Dwight Howard, C
LaMarcus Aldridge, PF/C
Tony Parker, PG
Raymond Felton, PG/SG
Jameer Nelson, PG/SG
Randy Foye, PG/SG
O.J. Mayo, PG/SG

If you notice, I am very heavy on guards. That's because in the last three rounds I set the draft board to point guards, and forgot to switch it back. I can't even call it a beginner's mistake, being as I have been playing for a while now. I'm just an idiot. I missed out on some big men who would have rounded out my team:

Chandler, Ilgauskas, Okafor, Horford, David Lee, Bogut, Nene.. oh well.

Aside from the abundance of guards, your team is fairly balanced. You shold try to swing a trade for one of those guards, though.

Are you in a roto league or head-to-head? Also, is it safe to assume that you picked first?

Yeah, like I said I messed up in the last three rounds and forgot to switch the tab from point guards to all players. What an idiot.

Our league is head to head. I did get the first pick, and took Paul. My next two were Boozer and Josh Smith, and then my next two were Howard and Gay.

I still can't believe I forgot to switch the tabs back... I missed out on so many possible big guys.... but yeah, I'm definitely looking to part w/ two of my guards. Preferably Nelson and Mayo... I want to keep Foye and Felton.

EDIT: Also, w/ the first pick, I was going between LeBron and Paul. I don't know why, but I kind of eliminated Kobe without even thinking about it. I'm not sure why, it almost seems dumb. I'm just thinking now that Paul had TOO GOOD of numbers last year.. you know? We'll see.

Do you play? You have a team, or just a basketball fan?

You definitely did the right thing by taking Paul first. My league just had our draft tonight and this is who I took:

    1. (9) Chris Bosh
    2. (16) Steve Nash
    3. (33) Jason Richardson
    4. (40) Hedo Turkoglu
    5. (57) Josh Howard
    6. (64) Andrew Bogut
    7. (81) Luol Deng
    8. (88) Tony Parker
    9. (105) O.J. Mayo
    10. (112) Nick Collison
    11. (129) Mickael Pietrus
    12. (136) Boris Diaw
    13. (153) Rudy Fernandez

By checking out your team, it looks like you're league is pretty deep. Tony Parker always slips to the later rounds, and makes him worth that 8/9th round pick. I like Collison too, I picked him up the end of last year when he started to get like 8pts, 8rbs per. Diaw was a good pick late too. Our of curiosity, who was taken with the first 5 picks in your draft? Good luck.

I would hold on to Mayo if I were you. He's a pretty talented guy on a pretty crappy team, so he should see a lot of playing time, and could explode for a strong rookie year. I like Felton, but I'm not big on Foye. That's just my opinion though, of course.

Kobe's my favorite player, but there's no way I'd take him with the #1 pick. Unlike Lebron and even Paul, Kobe has so many weapons on his team that it actually hurts his fantasy value. Plus, Phil Jackson has said he wants to cut Kobe's minutes this year. I would say Paul was definitely the best choice.

Yeah, I play. Never done head-to-head until this year. Had our league's draft last night and I picked 10th. Ended up with this:

    1. (10) Dwyane Wade PG,SG
    2. (15) Al Jefferson PF,C
    3. (34) Joe Johnson PG,SG
    4. (39) Brandon Roy PG,SG
    5. (58) Greg Oden C
    6. (63) Tracy McGrady SG,SF
    7. (82) T.J. Ford PG
    8. (87) Zach Randolph PF
    9. (106) Al Thornton SF,PF
    10. (111) J.R. Smith SG
    11. (130) Luis Scola PF,C
    12. (135) Shaquille O'Neal C
    13. (154) Sasha Vujacic PG,SG

The first five picks went pretty much as scripted, except the guy picking second took Lebron who was ranked 4th, so it went: Paul, James, Bryant, Stoudemire, and whoever was 5th (I think it was Dirk and I can't check my fantasy stuff from work).

It was Nowitzki... I took him.
  • Drafted last night, I had the 12th pick in a 12-team league:

    2. (13) Pau Gasol PF,C
    3. (36) Antawn Jamison SF,PF
    4. (37) Andrew Bynum C
    5. (60) Ben Gordon SG
    6. (61) Michael Beasley SF,PF
    7. (84) Francisco Garcia SG,SF
    8. (85) Zydrunas Ilgauskas C
    9. (108) Raymond Felton PG,SG
    10. (109) Rashad McCants SG,SF
    11. (132) Chris Wilcox PF,C
    12. (133) Mike Conley PG,SG
    13. (156) Jordan Farmar PG,SG

    i draft sunday

i would try and trade felton - the guy is a hair puller ... he can go off for like 25 and 12 assists with a few 3's and steals and then shoot 2-16 with 6 to's ... also, i'm not a fan of howard unless you are prepared to give up on FT% every week ... if i had howard on my team - i would go for the 5-4 win every week dominating FG%, Blocks and Boards and hoping to win pts and some other cat ...

Maybe subconsciously I was thinking that about Kobe. I think the thing that eliminated him for me was not only the fact that he has truly become a team player, but also the injury over the summer.

I don't follow college basketball, but anything I know about the rookie class has come from watching sportscenter or reading up on them online. I also like the fact that I have Gay too, so between the two of them they should put up pretty good numbers.

I had J.R. Smith last year, and he just was up and down, but apparently he is supposed to have a good year (according to Y! Fantasy Experts haha)
