But My Morning Jacket- I didn't want to get into them because my first exposure was as a PJ opener. I didn't want to like them just because PJ did, but DAMN! They are fucking awesome! Acoustic Citsuoca is a really great EP, They are a really, really good band. Sorry, been jamming out to them for the past 2 hours, and I am thoroughly enjoying myself.

    MMJ are AMAZING live,...

MMJ are fantastic....but why would it be so horrible if you liked them only after you saw them open for PJ....this my friend is the point of openers....to expose you to new music...PJ or not....I can't tell you the number of bands that I have gotten (if thats a word) into after seeing them open for bigger bands....

Been to literally over 100 concerts over the years, which includes many openers seen, many missed. That said, I am pretty corny with my PJ fandom, like many here, but I go out of my way to like what I like because I like it, not because anyone tells me to, if you can feel me. EXAMPLE- Ted Leo sucked all 3 times I sat through them, even though PJ thought I would dig them. It is kinda similar to how I used to hate Dave Matthews because it was impossible to find something personal in the music because it was playing in every dorm room I walked past for years, but now, since DMB is not plastered all over the place, and I don't listen to pop radio, I think Dave Matthews Band is awesome. I just dont like being force-fed music. Make sense?

Seeing them again this next friday at Edgefield in PDX. Can't wait- kick ass band and venue!!
  • MMJ are awesome... I started loving their music after I saw them open for PJ, I hadn't heard from them before that.

We went to see them live a couple of weeks ago here in Miami and the show was incredible!!

Ok, so you like MMJ, but you didn't like Ted Leo and the optometrists....or whatever....thats cool.

I was just confused because you said you didn't WANT to like MMJ because they opened for PJ.....seems like you made up your mind before they were even given a chance.

    I love cake.

    Good night.

Not at all... I like what you said about making a personal connection to music. It's totally true.

I didn't like Ted Leo either and I keep thinking I missed something because all my friends say he's great. I was bored.

Nice. Good to hear. Sorry, it is tough to decipher prick comments from sincerity in print sometimes.

Yeah, I'm not a prick that would make fun of you for liking Dave on a message board.

  • I got tickets to Neil Young and MMJ today.:D:D:D
  • My 2 favorite shows this year other than PJ of course were MMJ at Red Rocks & The Mars Volta a couple of nights ago in NY. Both of these bands I saw first as warm ups. Now I'll try to catch them whenever I can. They're both amazing to see live! An open mind = knowledge sinking in!

I bought their latest CD (Evil Urges) just days after it was released and I'm still loving it..

Pearl Jam openers have been hit and miss for me over the years. My Morning Jacket, for me at least, have easily been my favorites. My first exposure to them was seeing them open for PJ in 06 and i've since become a big fan.

Same thing with Liam Finn on the Ed tour...i got his album before my first show and totally dig it. I'll be first in line to buy his 2nd one.

Ted Leo did nothing for me this past summer. I really wish we had gotten KOL in NYC.

Personally, I can thank PJ and Ed for turning me on to MMJ, Wintersleep and Liam Finn - simply amazing music. I can say the only band I have ever seen open for PJ which I simply didn't get is Slater Kinney (sp?) just not my thing, but hey, life's full of those headscratching moments.
