My Dad having an operation tomorrow

My old man has a 'dormant cancer' in his prostate :(. He is going in for an operation tomorrow and the doctors will decide what to do when they see how bad it is.

My Dad never really thinks about himself, and when he told me he had this cancer, he said "The worse thing about having this is, it increases your chances of having it"

My dad had prostate cancer just over 2 years ago and had his whole prostate removed. The cancer had just started into the tissue next to the prostate but they could just get it all -- a millimetre and he would have needed radium treatment etc. He's fine now and his 6 monthly psa tests are still coming back negative...but the longer passes, the more chance there is of it coming back. Scary shit!

It does increase your chances of having prostate cancer -- I'm sure my dad got told there's an 80% chance his boys will get it.

Best wishes and good luck to your dad tomorow...he'll be pretty sore and will have a pee bag in for a few days...but he'll be right.

Make sure he does his pelvic floor exercises RELIGIOUSLY. I cannot stress this enough. Dad had to wear pads for a few months because pee would just leak out...and he still doesn't have a really good strong pee flow now and definitely has a weaker bladder. Some men wear pads for AGES because they think they don't have to do the exercises then realise it just won't get better without the exercises. And I don't think he can get erections anymore....well he couldn't for well over a year -- but I haven't asked for a while ha ha.

Let us know how he goes. PM me if you want to chat! :)

Yeh he is going well. He is at home, and he is off to the specialist on Tuesday I think. We will find out more then.

    Thanks for your concerns...
