Why must people impose their religious views on you? I had this lady come up to me where I worked asking me if I was Christian. i said "yeah I'm catholic but I don't practice" she said "you need to go to church, Jesus loves you, you need to invite him into your life" I said "I don't need to go to church to know I am a good person"

"Jesus loves you, go to church especially at this time of year. You need to invite him into your life or you are going to hell"

I said "Lady, I live a good life, I don't sin (very often) I don't need you imposing your beliefs on me, I don't get paid for this"

She said "I will say a prayer for you and God bless"

It is not the first time she has done it to me, and she alwyas asks "are you christian?" Next time i am so going to tell her I am Jewish just to shut her up.

If you believe in it, good on you, I have nothing against it, my dad is a pretty strict Catholic, He doesn't force any beliefs on me or my sisters, and nor should anyone else,.

Thoughts?

I would actually prefer that to some of the ideas and opinions people try to shove down my throat on this message board. lol

She feels in her own twisted little mind that she can save you.
It is more for her than you, I think.
    Let her say the prayer..lol
Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
  • Because you'll go to hell for all eternity if you don't take JC as your savior, and she's concerned for you.

  • Some people are just whacky, and some are just passionate about their beliefs. I've had people say stuff like that to me, and I just listen to what they have to say so long as they're being respectful to me.

In your case, I probably wouldn't listen for too long, but I don't like getting into the habit of never considering someone else's views...a few bad apples can get you into that habit for life, and when that happens you don't grow.

I know her views. I went to a catholic school for 13 years and studied religion all throughout and was one of my main subjects for my HSC (high school certificate)

So I know all about catholcism and christianity in general (well not all but im sure you get the point)

Now one religion that I would be very keen to listen to someone talk to me about is Islam. I studied that and it is very interesting. It is a pity about the modern perception of it.

Ahh not really political more their religious views.

When people ask me shit like that i tell them i have strong beliefs but i consider it a private matter.

some of them push and i try to politely get away from them or the subject.

I never share my beliefs with them. Tell one of those nutjobs you are an atheist and they strap on the armor and whip out their leather bound sword and go crusading on your ass.

these are religious views she's enforcing on you.

politics is the thing where grey haired men lie to you about everything to make you feel better and religion is the thing where grey haired men lie to you... wait up.. yep they are both the same.. continue.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

You people live in freaky places. I get bothered by religious people once a year and that's by Jehovha's Witnesses, I tell them I'm not interested and that I don't believe in god.

We don't have religious people here like you do in the US, Canada and apparently Australia.
    THANK YOU, LOSTDAWG!

When I made an offhanded comment on a bus the other day about a crackhead who had tried to trick me and my friends into giving him a "deposit" so he would allow all 6 of us into his "taxi", some guy wearing a hoodie who looked about as rough as you can get suddenly whipped around, glared at me, stuck out a leaflet about his church and told me to save myself and save others. I just laughed nervously. he looked like a psycho.

It's because they think they're helping you. :D (Or, at the very least, they think they're scoring brownie points from God by pretending to want to help you.) ;)

I agree... I actually don't mind people trying to convert me cos once you 'belong' to a religion it's what you feel like you must do... and it's actually quite a nice thing for them to do, in THEIR mind... so I see it as my good deed :)

In saying that though, this woman is obviously a nut... next time tell her you're a satanist and watch the reaction :)

Ask any muslim person you meet then. Their beliefs about going to hell if you don't believe are much stronger than in catholicism. They're very very keen to talk about it and will answer any question you have. Why don't you even pay a visit to a mosque?
