I'm using 2007 and I'm not super-good at this, but I do use it on a semi-regular basis, so here's my advice:

    1. Make a list of the things you want in your drop-down menu (each thing in a different cell).
    2. Highlight the cell you want to contain the drop-down menu.
    3. If 2003 has these options, go to DATA and then to DATA VALIDATION.
    4. Under SETTINGS, where is says ALLOW, choose LIST. Make sure IN-CELL DROPDOWN is checked.
    5. Where is says SOURCE, click on the little icon to the right. Highlight the cells conaining the things you want in your drop-down list.
    6. Hit ENTER and click OK in your DATA VALIDATION box.

That's how to create a drop-down list in Excel 2007 anyway. I can't remember exactly how to do it in 2003, but it's similar. Hope this helps.

damn, just tried it again and it doesn't seem to work.

i'd like to make this so the drop-down arrow is in the box and when adding info to a box in the column below, you click on it and the various options show up.

    again...thanks for the help.

    You can't delete the list.

So you mean you want multiple cells in one column/row to have the same drop-down menu? You just highlight the cell you already set up, and then drag your cursor to the other cells like when you fill stuff in. (You know, when you put your cursor on the bottom right of the cell and it makes a little cross - but not the cross with arrows at the end or the fat, white cross.) It should fill in the formatting.

do the list thing for one cell, then put your cursor over the lower-right-hand corner of the cell until it turns into cross-hairs. The cell has to be selected in order for that to work. Now hold down the left mouse button and drag that sucker down into the cells below.

Put the source list in a column that is way the hell far away from your work area. Then hide that column. Let me know if you need directions on how to hide a column.

If that doesn't work, go here
