about 6 weeks ago I went back to trying to drink a gallon of water each day. I was prepared for the constant trips to the ladies', but I not for being FREEZING. holy crap I am cold. and I'm NEVER cold, except for when I drink all this water! The water itself isn't that cold, I switched from the water cooler to the tap. but my god, does this happen to anyone else when they drink water? what is it doing to make me so cold! I usually have a general understanding of how this sort of physiology works but I am at a loss!

    water feels good.
  • Water doesn't do that, at least not directly. Drinking water at any temperature below your own body temp will cause your metabolism to speed UP, so you actually get warmer.

It could be an indirect effect related to something else, but I dunno what that'd be.

I drink a ton of water and excercise a lot (run 3-4 miles a day), I am often quite cold. In fact most people I know that are in great shape often get cold the easiest.

higher muscle mass to bodyfat ratio? thus less 'insulation' to keep you warm? i believe it. even if i was never in 'great shape' muscle wise...i most definitely got colder when i was thinner....just less bodyfat, period. and it does seem that many of the truly 'fit' people i know are like that, since you pointed that out. makes sense to me. yet another reason to get thinner again...i hate BEING hot, but looking hot is always good. ;)
    Stay with me...
    Let's just breathe...

I am myself like you somehow

when I was great shape I never really got cold, I'm never cold. and it's only in the course of drinking the water that I get cold. once I finish it I'll warm up.

yeah I've always thought SKINNY people seem to get cold, but not necessarily fit people.

Most people in great shape have lower body fat percentages...that's why they're colder.

    You're a freak!

    Hehehehe!
  • wait wait!!! This happens to me as well. I always thought it was so strange. Even if I drink bottled water at room temp. I am freezing afterwards. I drink atleast 8 bottles of water a day at work and I shake because I am sooooo cold. I always thought it was so odd that I freeze my ass off when I drink water. It only happens with water for me.

  • FACT: If you eat a full & balanced diet (especially all your fruits and vegetables) you will need to consume ZERO ounces of water a day.

Yup, that happens to me too. And I drink A LOT of water. In summer it's cool, in winter I drink more herbal teas to warm me up.
  • maybe you got circulation issues. Are you cold all over, or just in your extremities or what?

I think this might be true - I teach 12 aerobic classes per week, and weigh about 115lbs., and I have to change out of my sweaty clothes right away afterward or I get a chill quickly. And I also feel better when I drink more water.
