willing yourself...sick

ok, this is terrible, but ever since I heard that this year's flu shot was a dud, I've been holding out hope that I *get* the flu. I felt a little sniffly today...I was thinking "could I have it! could I have it!" I mean I don't want to be sick, it will screw up my workouts, my over health, etc. and I'm sure it would suck. But I am desperate to avoid my boss/new project, so part of me thinks it would a good break. I mean when you have the flu, you can't help it, no one expects you do anything. Have you ever hoped for the flu???

p.s. what I DON'T want is a cold-you feel like shit, but you're still responsible for everything you're usually responsible for. F that.

p.p.s. if this justifies it at all, it is 8:52 on sunday night and I just got an email from scary boss man...

    never. i got the flu shot for the 2nd year last december and so far so good *knock on wood* i was out from work for 2 weeks because of a hand accident and i went insane. always be grateful for good health!

    uhm....no. I'm all set with being sick.
    believe it or not, we don't "need" anything. that is only the spoiled brat in us trying to fill some temporary solution to an emptyness that does not exist.

    I have the flu right now, and believe me you don't want it. You're going to have to deal with work sooner or later which is better than feeling like warmed over death.
    Once in a while you can get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right.

    HAHAHAHA.. I love this post. I tried as hard as I could to get sick last week. My husband had the flu, and was sick sick sick, and I wanted to miss work SO badly. I would kill to have to be off because I was sick. I'm totally in the wrong job obviously since I loathe being there more then life these days, but damn I tried hard to get sick. And NOTHING. I was like, my throat is scratchy.. here it comes, headache, here it comes... nope.. nothing..

    go figure! I get sick at the worst times, like the day I have to fly on a plane for vacation, or the day that I was going to spend time at the beach.. Nope, can't get sick in the middle of the winter when there is nothing going on but work.. that would be too awesome.

    ME TOO! I hate it! I was shocked when I wasn't sick during my trip to the Bahamas last year! I was just waiting for it to happen. I took a whole bag of medicine with me, just in case!

    I haven't had the flu in 9 years...the last time I had it was in college, which SUCKED, because when you're in school, and you get sick, you still have to work. I remember my two guy friends had to come get me before classes and walk me there because I was so weak I could barely stand.

    but a couple years ago I had pneumonia while I was working...it was awesome! I felt like death warmed over, but I got to go to my parents' house and just lie there and watch tv for like a week. I couldn't feel guilty about anything, I had pneumonia!

    well I was put on a different project that is more urgent and should be a tad better...at least it's actual analysis and not just sales...so I can not be sick I guess.

    Seems to me you don't really need to be sick. You need to resign from that job if you can't face scary boss man. Find yourself another one.

    I do not get the flu shot and have only had the flu 2X in my life....YOU DO NOT WANT IT! It isn't like a virus...you are so sick you feel like dying and it lasts about a week, longer for people who have health issues. Recently I've been dealing with stomach ulcers....there was one weekend that they were so bad and at that point I had no idea why I was so sick, that I ended up in the hospital....I was in so much pain and discomfort...I really thought that I had cancer of the stomach, and so did my doctor. Don't wish illness on yourself...call in sick and have it be a well deserved mental health day! We all need them from time to time! Those mental health days are what keep you from ever getting sick.
