Do what I do: take a 5 day weekend (my birthday is always around Memorial Day weekend) and drink so much that you think that you're liver is going to crawl out of your body and explode right in front of you.

And go to the House of Blues. LOL
I'll ride the wave where it takes me.

for some reason...that doesn't sound like a very good time...not sure why...

Go to Medieval Manor and have dinner with your friends, get on stage with a loaf of bread between your legs battling another hot chick, and finish the night off with a stop at....wait for it....The House of Blues.
    This weekend we rock Portland

On my 30th I went out to a killer restaurant and just made a fucking beast of myself with a crew of close friends and the girl I was having sex with at the time.

    Do that.

Or she could buy a giant butt plug from Pure Romance or something.
Do you remember Rock & Roll Radio?

man...tell her you only turn 30 once and you'd like to celebrate it on your birthday...if, of course, you care. i would.

why can't she take the day off? is she a close friend?

who cares what she thinks? it's your day, not hers. fuck her. go out with your other friends and do teh spa thing during the day just for yourself. i did that for myself a couple years back on my own and loved it :)

yeah she is a close friend. and I only have a couple friends in this state. one of them is out because of her dog and other stuff and another is out because she's working...this difficult one is actually OFF on the weekend in question but wants to go away with other friends...so actually whenever I do it it's not going to be anymore than 2 people...doesn't really seem worth all this trouble. I guess we can just try to go out to eat, but I'm really into going out to eat so I wouldn't even know what restaurant to go to.

um, nothing in particular. I like everything but there's really not much I get like excited about. I guess seafood would be my favorite, but my friends don't eat fish and sea food places are more expensive than a lot of other places. If I were going for seafood I'd rather go with my parents so I don't have to feel bad.
  • did other people do something interesting for their 30th or was it uneventful? I only have one friend who's already turned 30, and she had a huge party because we were in grad school and, well, when you're in school you know enough people to have a party. Is it lame not do anything for your 30th birthday? I have no idea. I usually don't really do anything, but I feel like these with the 0s on the end are somehow important. I'm getting really stressed about this!!!

I saw Social Distortion at a small club on my 30th!

Then I went to a really weird party near Green Lake.

    Wild.

    :p

Get a tattoo of a dog....or buy a dog and name it Tattoo!

haha the latter sounds like a better idea :).
damn, if I could take care of a dog I totally would...

I've just never had a big birthday thing before. I didn't really do anything on my 21st, my 18th was spent at a swim meet...
  • ah, now everyone's telling me to just give them ideas of what I like to do, but I don't know what I like to do...help, what do I like to do???? :)

it's in a few weeks. last night my friends were asking me what I want to do. I don't have many friends in the area at all, so I can't really have a party or anything. In the area I have like 3-4 girlfriends (and I guess their partners), a brother, and 2 neighbors, and possibly 1-2 coworkers. Any suggestions?

3-4 girlfriends is not enough for you? i'd be mighty pleased even with that number.

i don't give a shit about my birthdays no more, i don't plan it at all, i roll with it, if ya know what i mean

My 30th is in two weeks and apparently a surprise party is on the docket. (Those things never stay a surprise.) My actual birthday falls on a Monday and I may wind up spending it at a Libertarian Party social in Boston. Extremely random and I think that's why I'm intrigued by it.

    A couple suggestions...

Staying in: Find the night when the most people are free and have everyone get together at your place (or someone else's). Get a bunch of booze and break out cards, board games, DVDs, music...whatever you like to do around the house. If you add a bunch of people and alcohol to the most mundane fun, it usually turns out pretty great.

Going out: I would suggest scouring the Weekly Dig or the Phoenix for events on the day or days you're looking at. I always find something interesting that I never would've found out about otherwise. Interesting art exhibits, crazy themed club nights, bands, film festivals/screenings/double features, comedy shows, theater, etc.

do nothing, just gather round few of your mates and have few beers ( or wine if you like wine ) don't stress to much :)
  • my goal is to bench press 300 pounds on my 30th birthday. maybe you can try for that too ;)

I threw a party...my party! In a tent in the garden. And, and this is the killer..I played the music all night!!! I made about 4 compilation tapes, rigged up some big speakers, and boy....that garden party rocked like a mo fo!!!! And no one (well not many) complained. :D
    I came, I saw, I concurred.....

When I am single and it is my birthday, I like to go to my favorite spot in nature, appreciate its' beauty, and write poetry.
