selling used stuff for equal or more than retail

what is the deal!?!?! I'm looking for a cheap used bike to get around with, and every one I find on craigslist that I'm interested in is the same price or more than the retail price! what the hell, if I want to pay retail, I'll buy a new one and be assured there's no problems...are people actually able to sell stuff for these prices? are people just that lazy that they don't check to make sure the price is legit?
