so i've been wearing cotton t-shirts to work out because my wic running shirts don't fit anymore. but cotton t-shirts just like take the stink and trap it in, even after washing! I've been putting white vinegar in the wash, as I read it gets out sweat smells, but it doesn't seem to be working all that well! does anyone have any other suggestions? I don't like stinking before I even get to the gym.

Even after washing? Wow, thats some toxic sweat.

well it's cotton, if it's drenched in sweat it's going to retain the smell.

Wait, you put vinegar on something to make it smell better? Isn't that like using a waterfall to dry your hands?

That would explain why I've never heard of it.

Not that I have any idea if this works or not GTD, but what about some essential oils? Like a drop or two of lavendar oil or something in the wash?
    NOPE!!!

    dunno, maybe.

what about soaking them first? I usually find if I let something soak for a bit that it gets it cleaner. My mum would probably tell you to soak them in a little bleach. That could work.

how are you drying them btw? coz that can have a big impact.

    usually low heat for drying.

hmm yeah soaking is always good. it's such a pain in the ass to use the washer in my house...but I guess I should probably suck it up and figure out a way to soak...

I hear that bleach or ammnonia works. I've never heard of clothes still smelling after a wash though! What kind of detergent are you using?

eh I've had this problem with all detergents (I used to use regular tide or whatever and had the problem back then with anything cotton, but now I use organic stuff).
It's not unheard of though- there's enough info on the house cleaning sites to suggest it is a fairly common problem.

    Don't wear as much maybe?

Are you heavy set? Do you not workout a lot? Do you have very active sweat glands?? I work out all the time, but only sweat a lot if I'm overly bundled or its 90+ degrees out..

Maybe my sense of smell is bad, or maybe I don't care because I workout in workout clothes that I don't care how I smell when wearing them.

I work out almost every day and have been for 10 years. I guess you are one of the lucky non-sweaters. the better shape I'm in, the more I sweat. I sweat buckets. I sweat when I'm not working out too. I'm always way too hot.

But I don't think the sweating is the problem, it's the clothes RETAINING the sweat smell.
I really can't believe this thread has caused so much controversy, I thought it was just a normal part of life!

lol, no, it is a normal part of life.. maybe I'm alone in not caring what I smell like when working out or before.

oh well I reckon there's the problem right there then. some things really need to be dried in fresh air and sunshine. I know that's easier said than done but I bet that would make a HUGE difference. And yeah, the soaking.

yeah but it's like acids canceling out bases or something. the vinegar smell doesn't like remain in the clothes when they come out, it's too diluted with all the water and soap.

    seriously?
I find that hard to believe

    how about mens wic sizes
  • What happens when you add bleach to the wash? My towels get really stinky bc of mildew. They never quite dry fully in the winter. but a little bleach added to the wash and the smell is gone!

oh I can't dry things out side, i don't have a yard or anything. plus these tshirts need to be shrunken after each wear.

yeah women's l or xl running shirts just run so small! I have piles of them from when I was a lot smaller. I mean they technically fit, but you can see everything! just rolls of fat and they're short so then my disgusting round gut just sticks out.

mens are too big and don't hang right. I found this store that sells tshirts for cheap with the store's name. the men's ones for some reason fit fine. they are are super light cotton. only tshirts that really work on me.

No way!! I only workout in cotton shirts and sweat as much or more than anyone and they do not smell after normal washing.
