two days of nothing to do ALLLLL day. My job is either billing 13 hour days or doing absolutely nothing. All I can do is just sit here and think. it's driving me nuts. and it kills me to have to come here and just sit in this chair all day for no reason.

be glad you have a job or ....
  • be glad you have a job or ....

well I won't have one if they don't start giving me some more work...
  • You're complaining because you're getting paid to do nothing?

    what am I missing?
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

it's not good, trust me. it's a double edged sword. at this point in my job I can only do tasks that are assigned by the higher ups, so if they don't assign it I have no work. but if I don't have enough billable hours it looks really, really bad, and I don't get any bonuses. So it's like I can't do anything about it but I'll be the one punished for it in the end.

ah, consulting. I have no idea why I do it.

Don't you have a resource manager to contact about it?

Surely, some more work is in the pipeline?

Down time are ok in consulting - enjoy them because they don't last much.

And yeah, I'm in consulting too.

But if your downtime is lasting for too long, you definitely should do something about it. Contact your manager, colleagues to get involved in other projects. Network! That's what consulting is all about really - and bullshitting too.

Sitting on the bench especially if a recession is looming is not a good place to be!

no I don't really have anyone to contact about it. everyone is just engrossed in their own work. it is a complicated situation. I really don't like being on this task-by-task basis and I need some on-going work but I'm still viewed as a pee-on. And if I ask for a task, I'll end up with unbillable data entry, and frankly, I'd rather just sit here.
