So I won this poster on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250213686307&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=015

Very cool! Right? Well, today the US Postal Service left it on my door mat with an obvious "kink" in the tube it was shipped in. My guess is they threw something very heavy on the shipping tube which caused the "kink". So I'm hoping the poster is OK, but nooooooo! There's a very noticeable crease on the poster from whatever it was that caused that "kink". So I have a Methane Studios signed poster that was mint, but is no longer mint. My intentions was to frame this poster and put it someplace in my house. I'm kinda bummed right now!!! I don't know if paying for the insurance would have made a difference. The poster was packed very professionally and I've purchased posters on eBay in the past and never had a problem with shipping. As long as it's shipped in a tube, I figure there's nothing to worry about, right? I'm very pissed at the US Postal Service right now and I needed to gripe about this! I'm probably going to frame this poster anyway, it just sucks that this was such a nice poster and it's ruined now.

Sorry for the bitching. I just needed to gripe about this somewhere.
Rock on!

Master Framer or someone else posted a way to get kinks out if they aren't too bad. Something about pressing or? I'd talk to a framer and see if it can't be fixed or at least minimized. Good luck. :)

  • i'm so sorry.
however, honestly...shit happens. far more packages get delivered unscathed than not...but shit WILL happen in transit, no matter what. insurance really only gets you back what you paid, so that's the 'insurance'.....they may treat it slightly more carefully to avoid damage. but hey, what's done is done....lesson learned, eh? hopefully you CAN minimze the damage. good luck! :)

paying for insurance WOULD have made a difference - the USPS would have been liable if the package was damaged. Still sucks though...I went to my PO today at like 1:32pm (with 2 clerks helping 2 customers), and they turned me away and said that they were closed at 1:30. I had 1 package to send, and those pricks couldnt take 1 more person. Typical monopoly...

Oh, it's definitely a monopoly - none of those other services offer letter service (first-class). Also, none of the others are run by the government...

THERE's the real distinction. it IS a government-run program. an enirely different animal. also, you weren't discussing 'letter service'...you were bitching about mailing a package. i was offering you other alternatives for that very SAME service, so no monopoly on that. you could argue sure for letter service, but again...it's a government agency. also, ya know what? you CAN get letters delivered by others services....just not for the price of a 41 cent stamp. and no, i don't work for the postal service, although my husband does work for a related branch....but he WAS a letter carrier for YEARS. it just amazes me how people bitch and bitch, whereas in reality..we get pretty excellent/relaible service for a pretty damn good price. agree, disagree...c'est la vie. bottomline...you do have alternatives.
