How sensitive are they? No way to beat 'em I would guess.

I know no one will believe me, but I don't want to know for myself... but a friend has a great job opportunity but isn't sure he will past a folicle test.

    Hair drug testing

Hair testing is considered not accurate and can go back normally 2 days (1 week or longer possible with specialist tests), showing none of several drugs have been used in the detection window. As hair grows out, any drugs used are not encased in the hair shaft, so the longer the hair, the least time back in the individual's drug history the laboratory can detect. Accredited hair drug testing laboratories, however, only use hair within about 2.5–4 cm of the scalp, and discard the rest. With head hair each 0.5 inch (1.27 cm) corresponds to about 300 days. This limits the detection history to about 900 days, depending upon the rate at which the individual's hair grows. Some people attempt to circumvent this through shaving their heads. This does not usually work. In the absence of the required amount of hair on the scalp, body hair can be used as an acceptable substitute. If all hair is shaven, the follicles of the hair may be used in place of the hair. Removing the hair follicles is more painful.

Additionally, for pre-employment hair testing, the inability to obtain a sample may be grounds for not hiring the individual. Hair Testing labs are regulated by CLIA or SAMHSA (not FDA). There is a growing trend in major companies and law enforcement agencies to utilize hair analysis on account of its efficiency and reputation as the gold standard when considering test accuracy. This technology makes use of radioimmunoassay technology with subsequent confirmation by mass spectrometry.

In recent years, hair testing has been the subject of a number of lawsuits. Studies have shown that different ethnic groups have different hair structure, potentially leading to false-positives.

But there's nothing to worry about. It dosen't work.

I find it kind of odd they refer to this as follicle testing when they are talking about using the base of the hair shaft.. The follicle is where the hair grows from, isn't it?

EDIT: Not only that, but they can kiss my butt if they think I'd let them cut my hair down to my scalp! I'd look pretty odd with long hair on half my head and none on the other!

    it says follicle.

this is probably really silly. My friend got a bit off his rocker one night and had a little smokey smoke (a month or so ago). Now he's had a great job interview, but has to do this drug test and he thinks it will ruin it.

They don't shave your head. I think they just pluck a few hairs.

He should be alright. Unless he over-indulged.

if you don't mind me asking, what was the job your friend was applying to?

An Administrative Assistant is getting a hair follicle drug test? Couldn't you do that job stoned anyway? ;)

We do urine drugs testing at my office (Dr's office).. Not sure about hair, but after a month using urine, it doesn't register in the results. You'll have to take my work for how I know this. =)

    Peace

1~ he smoked pot, no devils dandruff or chemicals... (not even sure what that means)

2~ it isn't me that I am refering to. the only reason I really care if he passes the drug test is because with this job comes discounted rent rates...which means I can live with him (pletonic) on the cheap. :)

    thanks for the help!

didn't read thru the entire thread but i remember circa 1995 my gf at the time knew sm1 at blockbuster. that was the first i had heard of hair testing for drug use. per the info i was told that it was very expensive. so i found it difficult to imagine an employer so driven to keep the work force 'clean' that said employer would actually spend so much to get that result.

no biggie but the last time i tested was 12 years ago.

    simple piss test.

    totally negative.

i had 8 weeks notice. i was clean as a whistle.

    tonite? i am busted!! :D
Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
    And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green
