Go see a doctor. Since you say your "ear" not "ears" hurt I'd be willing to bet you've got a bit of an infection. Ear infections are easy to get - swimming, sinus problems, allergies are all great causes. A 10 day dose of antibiotics and maybe ear drops will hopefully make you feel better.
But DON"T ignore it. Infections can lead to hearing loss!!!!
Take care.

Oxxys, Kerian is correct here. Do not ignore it and it can lead to hearing loss.
For the love of your ears, go see the doctor.
You don't wanna go through surgeries of getting cochlear implants, dealing with mapping sessions and still not hearing the same way you used to.
I have a cochlear implant myself, but since I had never heard anything since being born profoundly deaf... I do not complain about what I'm actually "missing out" because I don't have the "natural" sounds to compare with. It's actually a gain for me.
But from talking to individuals who experienced hearing loss and then getting cochlear implants have expressed disappointments with how long it takes them to appreciate music again. Some have chose to listen to different kinds of music, abandoning their former musical tastes.
I don't mean to scare you...but please do take care of your ears and go see a doctor.
Take it easy with ipods and car stereos too!
