Hey..

I'm doing a study on scrap metal recycling and I need more stats than what I have. Going through googe is starting to drive me crazy, so this is my last resort......

If you could, please answer the following, even if it's only one word answers...

1) do you have scrap metal pick-ups at your house, the same as garbage pick-ups?

if yes....

2) where are you located?

3) do you have a special bin for it?

4) how frequent are the pick-ups? Some places have garbage every week, but metal is only every second week.....

5) do you find it effective? i.e. do you actually use it, or do you still toss stuff in the garbage, like old frying pans and cookie sheets, etc.....

THANKS SO MUCH! Any and all help at this point would be appreciated....

    Hey Jo!

1.) No, no pickups for that stuff. But we do have a town landfill which handles that sort of thing. But they do not pick up.
I love to turn you on

    1) If aluminum and steel count...as in cans or such, then yes.
    2) The City of Birmingham, Alabama, U.S.
    3) City provided a recycling bin/tub
    4) Every Wednesday
    5) Use it every week....all acceptable items go in the bin.

At home, in Victoria, BC, they have bi-weekly curbside recycling. Metal objects such as tin cans, aluminum, etc. are included in the program.
Blue-boxes can be purchased from city hall for $5 or so.

Larger scrap metal objects can be dropped off at the recycling depot for around $10 or $15 dollars/load.

In Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK, where I am temporarily residing, they have bi-weekly curbside recycling for tin & aluminum as well, although I believe that I have seen metal bowls and pans in some recycling bins. Black recycling boxes can be ordered from the city council at no charge and are dropped off at your residence. I do not know if they have drop-off recycling services here.

    Good luck with your research.

    Cheers!

We have a tub that we put plastic and cans and small metal items in. Larger metal items (such as a rusty mailbox) must be taken to the recycling location.
