Are any of you diehard soccer fans considering a trip to South Africa for the 2010 FIFA World Cup? Along those same lines, have any of you ever visited South Africa or is anyone on this board a resident of South Africa? I'd like to know how easy (or hard) it is to navigate the country and are there any places to avoid for safety concerns.

I'd love to make the trip for a few days and while I'm there do a white shark cage dive off the coast of Gansbaai.

the best thing about it being in South Africa is that they are in the same time zone as me.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.
  • Seeing as i'm English i probably won't have a team there to support, so no, probably won't bother!

I had a mate say we should go. I'm not the biggest fan, but I support Australia. But it will be very very expensive. maybe. Have to see if Australia gets in first.

I'm there, whether Aussies make it or not.

You're not exactly going to find yourself in places like Soweto if you're just going to flow along with the rest of the travelling football circus.

I am pumped for the World Cup...Go USA:)

If I start saving now, I may have a chance to go. My buddy will most likley come with me. He played with on or two of the people on the US team in college.

It's time for the U.S. to have a breakthrough performance in the World Cup. At this point, I'm feeling good about the team, so we shall see.

I'm going to start saving now. I've been looking on expedia for flights from Atlanta, GA, to both Cape Town and Johannesburg and there appear to be some fairly decent rates at the moment.

USA, they said in the last world cup that Australia were there just to make up the numbers. But we got further then you guys :D:D We would of got even further if that prick of an Italian didn't take a dive and the equally big prick of a ref didn't give it as a penalty.

    Go Australia....

I'm curious why you feel good about the team? I just think they have such a hard time scoring against top flight teams, I don't know what they are going to do in the World Cup. If Eddie Johnson starts I'm going to jump out of a window.

I just hope Adu and Altidore mature to the point where they can perform like they did in the U-20 World Cup.
