    Someone call Team America.

    America...FUCK YEAH!
  • Give them all Ipods...

    problem solved...
    Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
    and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
    over specific principles, goals, and policies.

    There's no oil in Congo but many mines (gold, etc.).. maybe this could interest USA ?
    The genocide there is not a new thing. People are killing each other since 1990...

    True but is it still so tragic. The gruesomeness (is that a word?) of the killings this time around is just plain shocking. No one seems to be able (want to?) help these poor people. I know it's difficult to intervene in a foreign country and one would want to avoid it as much as possible, but you would think there could be some diplomatic route/pressure that could help.

    EC Humanitarian office spends a lot of money there. The big problem is that this country is huge and the population in Kivu is huge too. The fact that the politics live in Kinshasa (3000 km from Kivu) doesn't help...

    So another genocide is happening in our lifetime. Seems absurd. Nonsensical killings. Will our country turn a blind eye to this as well, considering the fact it has nothing to do with oil, only decent human/animal behavior?
    Is it really genocide??? From what I have read, it is simply warfare and the killing is indiscriminate. Genocide, by definition, is targeted towards a specific group of people based on a shared characteristic. The genocidal element of the war in Congo is spill-over from Rwanda and its tribal problems.
    All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.

    you are right...according to the Article 2 of the "UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide", the definition of genocide is:
    "In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

    (a) Killing members of the group;

    (b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;

    (c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;

    (d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;

    (e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group."
