How much does it cost to frame a poster?

I went to get my ames Lollapalooza poster framed and I was shocked at how expensive it was. I got it single matted and just a normal black frame...nothing extravagant. It ended up being $110. Is that normal? I've never gotten anything done before.

Did you frame it with UV protected anti glare glass? I find that’s what really adds cost but definitely pays of from a preservation standpoint.

he just said "do you want normal glass" and I said I did. So I'm assuming it's just your normal glass

I haven't framed any of my posters, but when I brought a few in to get an estimate that was about what they gave me.

alright, so that is Canadian dollars so I am getting ripped off!! (assuming you took them in prior to the US dollar hitting the tank)

But in all honesty I was figuring about 60 bucks. I have 3 more to do and I didn't expect to shell out $450 to get them done....but I have bare walls right now so I guess I just gotta suck it up

Actually, the Canadian dollar was probably worth more when I took them in. It was late November or early December 2007.

  • candian dollar is stronger than the US

but, in american dollars i've had to shell out anywhere from 70 to 140 bucks. depending on the matting. (70 no matting) the type of frame and the size of the print. and i get the uv reflective no glare glass.

i usually do hobby lobby when they have their sales, but i have gone a couple other places. i usually take it, have them tell me what they thin, and if i get a good vibe then i'll let them frame it.

one place a couple of years ago told me they wanted to bond it to the foam backing board and thought i should just go with a premade frame that was a 1/4 inch smaller than the frame, because it would save me money.

"umm the frame wont fit though...."

"thats ok, we can just trim the edge of the print"
    :0

needless to say after shock, and saying hell no, i left , never to return.

I can afford it because I paid for it, but I just never had an idea how much something like that costs. I've never gotten a picture framed

also, if anyone goes to Michaels, there is a reason they ALWAYS have 50% off framing... because they triple the price it should cost... NEVER GO THERE WITHOUT A BIG COUPON!
I remember the first time I went there with a 50% off coupon, they gave me a price on my DC and Toronto 06 Klausens... I had a cart full of tubes, after they gave me the price on the first two I laughed, felt bad because we went through a lot to choose the options, so I let them frame those for about $180 each(after my coupon)...
I really wish I wouldn't have felt bad for them, because I am terrified to take my frames apart and see if they drymounted them, etc...

  • I've framed lots of stuff on my own, and it looks fine. Unless you want something absolutely spectacular, try doing it yourself.

When I framed mine, it looked so excellent with two mats and an expensive frame that I just went for the gusto and did it up in a big way. I figured it was going to be art that I lived with for a long while...anyway...I paid about $200.

    I don't regret it...at all.

Yeah, just practice on small pictures first. It's not that hard at all to get something decent.
