I'm off... maybe I'll find myself somewhere good when I'm done (mentally and geographically).

this is a simple pleasure in life... me, my car, the road and great music.

Yep! Being the first day of the month, start of the holiday passion!
Love, hope, change is in the air!
When you got a car & got some gas & a Pearl Jam cd playing in the background,
    there's power in the air.

I feel good and I love it!
I can't wait for my trip to Montreal this Wednesday! :)

Wish I felt this kind of energy every day of the year!

Yes! I love just taking a drive with no destination in mind.. no worries - just focusing on the road. Pop in some PJ and I'm set :)
  • i do this constantly. ive wound up in some pretty crazy places, too. but even if its just around my neighborhood, there's something therapeutic about driving at night when there's few other people around with music blasting

I like it every now and then, especially when it's snowy.
    NERDS!
  • Always fun and relaxing to go for a drive. PJ music is usually around but I'm finally branching out again with different music. I miss long summer drives.

I would do this on my racing bicycle and ride for hours with no particular direction in mind. Always best in the freezing cold, loved it!

Yeah, nowhere going drives are fun, and surpisingly relaxing!

I used to go for drives a lot last summer, '07, sadly since gas was crazy prices this year I didn't really get a chance to do that. I could do it this winter, but....eh, not as much fun when its -10 at night!!!

I miss it. Haven't gone out as much since gas skyrocketed. Did it a lot to get out of the house when I was a kid. Now, there are great, wooded, windy roads around me. I love feeling of being one with the car, instead of fighting with it, like I do on my work commute, say. And, of course, the music's cranking.
Man, if I don't get back to sleep soon, I might have to head out. ;)

instead of driving, try walking through a park with headphones (it's also nice to just listen to nature or sit by a river).
  • absolutely, when i'm upset or just preoccupied it helps to just get in the car and focus on the road, clears my mind. especially with some good music blasting!

there's a lot to be said for nowhere :)
  • I love going for a drive to clear my head - preferably in a place with little traffic, which is hard to find in jersey. At night is best.

    Take 287. Open spaces.

But for beautiful views, Palisades parkway in Bergen County

  • it's interesting how nighttime drives seem to work better. is it because stuff keeps us up at night, or the darkness helps to focus more or something? just thought it was curious :)

I'm in south jersey - which def has less traffic than north jersey. The AC expressway doesn't have much traffic this time of year :)

Was just through there on the way to Virginia Beach this weekend. Always more pretty than the north.

  • definitely ... get it the car and go ... ;)

some of my best writing comes during long drives ... I've learned to always keep a notebook and pencil in the console :D

it's definitely more spread out and scenic. Now I really want to go for a drive! :)

i hate driving at night, mainly because i'm nearsighted.

but you do have more free time at night than the day.
i still prefer the day time though.

yeah i feel the same way about nighttime driving just cuz i'm also nearsighted. my night vision isn't so great. but if i'm up and mentally/emotionally consumed by something then i'll head out...jsut where there's good lighting haha

daytime driving is the best just for feeling the sunlight and scenic views, i love that.

nights are great when you're driving into/out of a big city, i love those drives.
but yeah daytime works best for me but just not free time to do so.

anyway, CHANGEinWAVES hasn't posted since her thread was made. Hopefully, she's alright...safe and sound.

yeah i think the last time i took a drive like that at nite i was in a pretty sad mood, nowadays i'm too cozy at home in the evening to get out lol

though this thread has inspired me to make a point of doing a nice drive sometime this weekend :) no need to wait till i'm all upset lol
  • "rearview mirror" is perfect for such drives :)
  • it was a nice...LONG... drive. I got home around the time the sun was coming up. Took myself all over, thru Philly, by the airport (wished I was getting on a plane), then to country roads (just had to watch out for deer)....Music of choice that night was Ben Harper.

It's not even been a week and I feel a long drive could do me some good again. Night time is better because you feel like you are the only one, there's something about being alone on what is normally a busy road. Or being alone on a fog filled country road....ahhh if it wasn't already 5am I'd go for a drive now:D

  • Got a long one coming up this morning, with plenty to think about ... emptying out my ma's house for the estate sale. Being executor is a handful :o

I'm actually glad that it's a ways away, though. You're right ~ the road can be so clearing sometimes.
