CHANGEinWAVES wrote:'The Winged Victory of Samothrace' has been mine since I first laid eyes on it in person in 98. It's not really my art "style" (i'm more of a modernist) but there's something about the strength, fluidity and grace it has that captivates me. I simply love this piece:)

OK completely uncreative but honest nonetheless... Michaelangelo's David.
I passed on seeing the real deal the first time I was in Florence b/c I thought I'd rather spend more time in the other museums that had a better collection than one masterpiece and was content with the replica outside, but last time I went I went into the Acadamia and was not disappointed. I was expecting to be a bit underwhelmed, but it is truly an amazing work. Pictures and the replica do not do it any justice. I stood in awe of it for over 2 hours, circling and scrutinizing it. It is one of the few that lives up to the hype in my opinion.0 -

Oooo . . . I have quite a few as well.
Just like CiW, I have always loved the Winged Victory of Samothrace. I wrote a paper on it in one of my Classics classes.

David Hostetler and his various sculptures are amazing. I met him while working in Nantucket Island, Mass and heard his jazz band play too.
