Telemarketers

  • I say hello once wait a couple second then hang up. I suppose the they figure the easy targets will say hello a few times, because whenever I have, some stooge comes on if I say hello a bunch of times.

I tried telemarketing thing back in highschool for an hour and ended up just calling my friends, then told them to stick it.

I've had some people get the nerve to call me after 9pm. I also think they run automated dialers to scavenge legit tel #'s

A wasted life form I think. If you want to sell, go do retail or something actual instead of intruding on peoples personal lives, or work at a call center as a support tech for something, or selling pizza's

    That's my take.

Well, firstly, it's machine operated. The voice doesn't kick in for a few minutes. That's why it takes a while to hear a human voice. (The machine dials random nmbers for the salesman).

Secondly, I take offense at you calling salesman a wasted life form. :( There's a skill to it, you know.

I was a telemarketer for about a week and a half. I desperately needed extra money and the pay was good. I was one of those people that claims you "were selected" for free plane tickets. THen you have to go take a tour and hopefully buy time share.
Anyway, the job was hell. I sucked at it. More than once I would call and an old man would answer the phone-
me- "hello this is Lindsay, is Jane there?"
    man- "who is this?"
me- "I'm calling from InnSeason resorts, I have some great news!.. based on Jane's entry form we selected her for free plane tickets!"
man- "..she passed 3 months ago"

I think I almost cried, I felt so bad. I quit that job very fast.

    :(:(
Happiness is only real when shared

I've never done it, but it seems like a shit job. It'd be easy to say, "Nobody ever buys that stuff," but some assholes are buying it or the telemarketing companies wouldn't pay other assholes to make those calls. And please, I'm not calling the individual telemarketers assholes, though I'm sure some are. I mean the collective asshole of the whole telemarketing thing. I can't imagine what it must be like to be almost universally scorned for doing a job. Abortion doctors in Utah think telemarketers have it bad. I've got a marketing suggestion to improve the image of the industry: "Telemarketers -- At least they're not tow-truck drivers." Two truck driver -- now that's a shitty and hated job.

nothing wrong with doing abortion, those doctors help people and society as a whole.

tow truck drivers? i wouldn't hate them, they've got a reason to tow away the car.

yea i love when people are dicks. those are the ones i call repeatedly.

if you're nice and just say "no, thank you," then i'll leave you alone.

all i ask is that u non-telemarketers realize that this is a job, not a career.

    be nice!
See, this is why no one is nice to telemarketers. You leave people alone when they say 'no thanks', but no one says 'no thanks' because the 50 telemarketer calls that got there before you don't leave you alone when you say 'no thanks'.
