and i'm pretty fucking nervous and depressed because basic training is 8 weeks long and the next 8 week are going to be a complete nightmare for me. but after that i think it should be pretty cool and if i ever see any of you fuckers drowning in the ocean i'll come save you. hope all is well for everyone for the next couple of months. peace.

well If CG boot is anything like Navy boot it IS really easy.

THANK YOU for stepping up to serve our country.Especially in this way.

The CG does a lot more than just rescue Although that seems to be the main function.

Any thought on your MOS(job) sea duty, aviation?

right now i'm leaning towards the aviation side but nothing is set in stone. you were/are in the navy? people i've talked to have said basic is terrible while you are there (obviously) but it goes by fast and once it's over they say it wasn't all that bad. i hope that's the case.

was in 20 years ago. god has it been that long?

In navy boot even going through it wasn't bad.

The best advice I can give you is to keep your mouth shut, do what they say , when they say, how they say.you'll do fine.

We had some jokers who would get in trouble on purpose so we would all have extra PT(physical training)BASTARDS!! i'm lazy.

Really most of what we did was MARCH to and from.Class work , some testing etc.

I was in the aviation side. Pretty fuckin cool. Plus it's training is easily transfered to civilian life.

GET the GI bill and do college course work while you are in. it's free to you.

Yeah, Navy boot was pretty easy. Being there was 1/2 the battle. I agree with everything mickeyrat says. I joined in June 2000 so not too long ago. I can't imagine CG basic would be any worse. My friend is a chief in the Navy and pushes boot camp in Chicago. he told me that during battle stations (final test), they allow you to wear sneakers during the running portion. I had to wear boots all through boot camp. I guess it is the kindler, gentler Navy. Anyways, congrats on deciding to join and serve and hope you have a prosperous journey.

thanks for the advice. i've heard there is a lot of class work and a lot to remember and that's almost the hardest part of it all. as far as the college goes i already have 80 some college hours so i'm going in as an E-3 which is good and i'll have to check but i'm pretty sure the GI bill covers your children now as well which would be really good.

there may very well be more classwork for CG than the navy. CG has alot smaller ships. more to know about certain aspects about sailing, knots and so on.

And when you do get assigned try to stay IN the boat.seems to work better that way.

Aviation mechanicor some other tech. position? Or on board support staff/diver?

again, thanks for the advice. i'm leaning towards aviation mechanic (on helicopters) and hopefully eventually pilot. the only thing i don't like about that is that is a 5 month school and i have a wife and daughter and that's a lot of time away from them. we'll see though.

    good luck!
I love to turn you on
  • Best of luck... it's a job that doesn't get enough recognition for what it does. Right up there with firefighters if you ask me. There are quite a lot of rescues in the Irish sea and the atlantic and it must take an awful amount of courage to do what they do.
    The Astoria??? Orgazmic!
    Verona??? it's all surmountable
Dublin 23.08.06 "The beauty of Ireland, right there!"
    Wembley? We all believe!
Copenhagen?? your light made us stars
    Chicago 07? And love
    What a different life
Had I not found this love with you
