  • I've had a few that had a big impact on me. Catcher in the Rye in high school. On The Road between high school and university. Slaughter-House Five in university.

That book took my entire highschool senior class by storm. Except me. I for some reason chose not to read it even though it was assigned and I really wish I had. Vonnegut is Brilliant. Have you read "A Man Without A Country"?

  • Harold and the Purple Crayon, strangely enough.

I was 5 when I first read it and the concept within shaped quite a bit.

It were two books a friend gave me when I was around 17 (>10yrs ago) the 1st is the Alchemist by P.Coelho and the 2nd is The Tao of Pooh (an elementary but entertaining introduction to Taoism). I've read both books a few years ago again, back than in my quest for understanding religion and growing up it made quite an impression, later it didn't do the same trick again.

The Basketball Diaries by Jim Carroll

I read it when I was the same age as the author was during the book.

Under the Banner of Heaven...although it didn't actually change my "life" so much as it began my fascination with the Mormon church and FLDS cults.
Too bad it's inaccurate and biased

I have read every Vonnegut book and have an autographed copy of Mother Night. Vonnegut and Edward Abbey (Monkey Wrench Gang, Desert Solitaire) were the two writers who made me feel much better about my anti-human ways.

Nope, never seen it at the library. I've read Slaughter-House Five, Breakfast of Champions, Mother Night, Cat's Cradle, Bluebeard, and God Bless You Mr. Rosewater all in the past year and a half or so.

    The Tao of Pooh.

Slammerkin. Emma Donohugh? It's so depressing . LOL. Everytime I read it, it makes me so happy to have what I have in life. All the little things. Electricity, family, any food I could wish for. :(

I haven't read Eigur Dreams... and into thin air wasn't even anywhere near as good as some of the books I've read SINCE reading it. Touching the Void by Joe Simpson is simply an amazing book.

  • The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein

I had an emotional breakdown at the age of 5 because I KNEW instinctively that the tree would just keep giving until he was all gived up...and I also knew that I wanted to be a giving tree and not a taking boy.

I disrupted my Kindergarten class by howling and crying in absolute panic.

it was my first epiphany...but I got used to them ;)

the other life changeing book was/is East of Eden by John Steinbeck

who is a master of storytelling. I love this book so much that it is literally the book I turn to for answers pertaining to the human condition.

    The Divine Comedy
One of the true, genuine masterpieces. I would rate The Divine Comedy above 99.99% of books.

For me? Fathers and Sons by Ivan Turgenev, or Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk. Both appeal to my vaguely nihilistic tendencies but the former is more gentle and beautiful.

I read all the Judy Blume books when I was younger also, and The Catcher in the Rye was my favorite book in high school

other books I have read/really appreciate are Your Best Life Now, by Joel Osteen and
Love is A Mixtape by Rob SHeffield. (I have diverse taste! )

I don't think I have a life altering book but I'm almost done reading The Bible and I try to adhere to it

no life changing book... ive read some good ones..but nothing too profound.

music on the other hand... where would i start.
  • At the moment (I haven't finished it yet), I'd have to say Shakey, the Neil Young biography. Other than that, King Dork, it's one of the funniest books I've ever read.

    Game of Shadows...

Not really life-changing, just solidified my hatred of Barry Bonds.
