Anyone else moved to a new town on short notice before? :)

Ive been there, know the area somewhat, know people there & am starting jobhunting the day after i arrive (ie sunday). So, what else should i do?

I appreciate that many will advise to research & have job lined up etc, but for those who have gone with just the little money they have and a few things, are there any tips / unexpected challenges worth mentioning?

I realise there are a million obvious challenges, (thats kinda the point of going for me), and the move aint strictly permanent, so im not leaving my old life behind as it were.

Anyways guys & gals, hit me with what you got!

  • When I was 17 I moved from Nuneaton to Coventry at short notice.

I'd never had a job before and was absolutely terrified! :o

I went around and asked about jobs. I went to the job centre and every business I saw. It ended well and I got a job in a pub. Not great money but better than nothing and the process also helped me getting to know the city better. I met some great people along the way too and it helped my confidence no end...

    Good Luck! :)
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

I broke up with my GF last March on Easter Sunday, I quit my job, transferred my Guard unit, and quit school in GA and was back home in CT three days later. I had to leave because I wasn't going to spend another second living with her. Did it set me back? Well sure. But am I better off and happy now that I don't live with her in some redneck town?

    Fuck yes..

Wow, Thats cool, delighted to know that both of you happy u did it. :)

3 days? thats decisive. I like that, this was a quick but decision but i know i want to go - and ditto its costing me (in lost earnings & becoming jobless) - but i expect to be like Sian, happy once im in it and living.

Ironically im moving to a GF, life is stale for me here, and living outside of it for a few weeks/months/(whatever it turns out to be) feels right.

A Genuine thanks to both of ya for saying what i wanted to hear :)

after college me and a friend packed as much stuff as we could into a car and left to san diego (from the mid-west).... i had barely any money and we had no place to live or jobs lined up.....

got a place to live in less than a week and found jobs the next week.... ended up being two of the best years of my life!!

good luck on your move :)
