Seems like anymore (i'm 31) - that i have trouble remembering stuff especially at work, people are always calling my office or stoping by asking me to do things and i just can't keep up. i feel like i'm always forgetting things and i can't keep up - my desk goes through periods when its covered in post it notes. I feel like my memory is getting worse and like maybe something upstairs isn't doing what its supposed to.
As you live your life in sometimes quiet desperation, facing adversity and tragedy: if you have hope and love, that mixture helps you overcome that tragedy and go on with the rest of your life.”

If you are anything like me, getting stoned before work probably doesn't help. Of course, I have a government job so I am expected to be incompetent and forgetful.Idaho's Premier Outdoor Writer

You sound overworked or under-rested. Probably both."When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro"0

I also went through this for a short period of time...early thirties. I actually lost a job over it. The more you dwell on it, the more it happens. I have a job that I am very comfortable in now and it doesn't happen to me anymore. Sometimes it's definitely from stress or just worrying about the pile of papers on your desk.
Try moving your papers all into your inbox (in a pile) and doing one thing at a time, completing each task, and then moving onto the next. I used to make one checklist and cross it off when it's done. Less confusing than stickies and less overwhelming. Sometimes you write stickies and forget to read them. DANGEROUS! At least you can see what you accomplished that day and ease your mind a bit.
Good luck!I will hold the candle until it burns up my arm. I'll keep taking punches until their will grows tired. I will stare the sun down until my eyes go blind. I won't change direction and I won't change my mind.0 -

I've been going through the same thing for years, only it's been getting worse and worse. My boss sent me on reorganization courses to help me try to get more organized, but it never really sticks. (unlike the mountain of post-its on my desk and walls of my office.)
I contacted my EFAP who referred me to a guy who tested me for ADHD. Turns out that's what it is. All those years people told me i was stupid and lazy, well fuck them, they were WRONG!
So, to my second grade math teacher, i say to you SUCK IT!
To my 9th grad math teacher, i say SUCK IT!
To my 11th grade history teacher, BITE ME!
For the first time in my 35 (almost 36) years on this planet, i don't feel like a moron.
A little validation goes a long way.

I was hit between the eyes by a 70lb rock, rolling down a bank into a ditch I was cleaning out, a couple of years ago. I'm definitely very absent minded, now. Mind you, I'm lucky the thing didn't kill me, so a short-term memory blip isn't much to worry about.0

Thanks, elmer! Well, I've no real deficits, except I'll go to do something and forget what the task was. This would be fairly normal, if it wasn't most tasks per day! I get by.0

Funny time to read this thread:
I just finished putting together an Excel doc with all of my major projects, comments and next steps/dates because I was sick of forgetting statuses when people asked me for updates.
Oh, and I am 31 and have been thinking about this subject for a couple of years.Bright eyed kid: "Wow Typo Man, you're the best!"
Typo Man: "Thanks kidz, but remembir, stay in skool!"0 -

I suggest reading a book called "Brain Longevity" by Dharma Singh Khalsa, M.D.
In her book, she describes taking official "brain damage" cases and bringing those people back to normal functioning in spite of a zero probability diagnosis of that happening.
It's a combination of proper dieting, exercise, transcendental meditation, and stress reduction techniques.
Basically, the latest theory in brain functioning is based on a salmon study. Every year when salmon make a trip up river to lay eggs, their adrenal glands secrete a hormone which gives them the extra stength they need to swim upstream.
That hormone destroys their organs from the inside out. It turns out that our adrenal glands secrete the same exact hormone whenever we stress out. The result is early deterioration of our brains and ultimately early onset of memory loss and congnitive functioning.
But, it's reversible. By following the techniquest laid out in her book, her patients made miraculous recoveries.0 -

that's fascinating!
i'd like to see the stats if they ever studied brain function in people who are stressed most of the time vs. those who live a less-stressful life. i'd probably forget them 5 secs after reading them, but i'm sure i'd find them fascinating for that brief moment in time.i. am. mine.0 -

I bet there is a big difference...I wouldn't even want to know how my brain is.
I read a book about the brain once by shannen moffet..I think it was called the 3 pound Enigma, it was very interesting. These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.0 -
