9.69 seconds.

the last time i was in awe watching a 100 metres final was 20 years ago when ben johnson destroyed the field (and later himself).

would be really amazing to see if lightning will strike twice next week...with michael johnson's 19.32 seconds world record at stake.

Maybe he'll lighten up and really run in what was his best event the 200 metres. Only the second GOLD
    medal ever for Jamaica.

  • HE is a bit cocky....

He was even posing and acting all cocky for his mom! I was like who is this guy? He is one fast dude though. No one is beating Bolt.

If he can run that time while slowing down and celebrating, imagine if he kept the pace WITH a legal amount of tailwind... his time would be insane.

ya he's cocky but really if you can beat a WR, destroy your competition and enjoy yourself while doing it, why the hell not. From what i've heard he's a very easy going, life loving kind of guy who just likes to have fun and that's what he was doing. I don't think he disrepected any other athlete, he lost himself in the moment which is awsome. I'd much rather see somebody like him than somebody who is dead serious.
I loved his remarks to donovan bailey and the cbc reporter when asked about slowing down at the end, he said something like "it's better to beat it (WR) small". Love this guy's attitude and i hope he destroys Micheal (sore loser) Johnson's record in the 200

edit: i don't think anybody mentioned that he just started running the 100 this year!!! that's insane

Instead of just running hard for an extra moment he decides to showboat as he is still running. I don't root for that. I realize Jamaica doesn't get a lot of moments in the sun, but carry what you do offer to the world with a little class.

I didn't even think he was as cocky as other sprinters we've seen over the years. Remember Maurice Greene?

WORD 5-10 years from now he won't be this fast. I say differentiate yourself in your self confidence and really smash this world record. Besides it's not like he's the first to bring a gold medal to Jamaica.

when michael johnson ran that 19.32sec in 1996, i didn't expect the record to be broken.

2 gold medals, 2 world records. he blew everyone away.

    he deserves to be cocky.
